next step in n/a
hey gys,
what should my next step be for my de?
i made 150/135 on the dyno and am looking for more.
mods are
-g20 ecu
-2.5 inch exhaust
-port matching
-msd coil
-msd ignition system
-2.5 inch exhaust
-advanced timing
-jwt cams
-gspec pullies

-i am debating putting in 88mm 11.0:1 pistons instead of the factory 86mm 9.5:1 pistons. i can get my block bored at my buddies shop super cheap. i personaly are comfortable about 88mm bore on stock sleeves.

-88m pistons will bring the engine from 1998.3cc to 2092.3.(so roughly .1 liters more of displacement over stock)

-after i rebuld the engine i will get it tuned.

-i guess what i am asking here is, how much of a gain could be expected from a 2mm increase in bore and a 1.5 increase in compression.

my turbo set up is complete new but i want to mess around on the n/a path first. plus my engine still needs a rebuild. so i have to tear it down anyways

If you ultimately want to end up boosted, base you next moves on the end result you want. Were you looking to do high comp with your turbo build?

It would be cheaper and about the same gains if you went to 13:1 compression on 86mm. or 12.5:1 to stay on pump gas

88 on an N/A motor is fine, but a forced induction I believe 88 is pushing it. What cams are you running? Might want a bigger cam.

Cheap upgrade would be sr16 piston. For na

S3 intake cam s4 exhaust. And i want to keep the compression lower because i want to run pump gas. So no higher than 11.5:1. Also this is a dd car. I was thinking 88mm, a better header, and a tune would make good gains

Right, but do you want to throw boost on top of that block when its done or are you building another motor for boost?

I'm only saying this because if you want to go boost soon there is no sense throwing money at NA mods.

I have another engine for boost and dont have the money to sleeve the block for 92mm

You can run 12.5:1 on pump. I forget what SR16 pistons are in a DE. I know they are close to 13:1 in a VE, lower on a DE. I am running 88mm 12.5:1 on my VE on 93 octane pump gas. SR16s would be the way to go for cheap and easy. This way later on you can machine the block bigger if you decide to do something different.
