S4 Cams Install Newbie
Found some s4's for my b14 locally and installed for 450! They were used ofc.
My SOTP impression was they pulled a little harder, just a little. I have 2.5'' header + cb and 3'' short ram with a jwt popcharger. I am also runing g20 ob2.
I see some videos of S4's breaking loose after 3.5k rpms in 1st bouncing the rev limiter. I tried that, and it didn't work haha. I don't notice the hard pull in the upper rpms everyone speaks of. It feels ''faster'' like hp wise (honduh style) but what can I expect outta a 150whp car.

I kno used cams don't need break in, but when does the power REALLY come on? It's only been 100 miles, is it safe to say another 300-500 for the ECU to adapt? cause i am kinda dissapointed =\

I don't usually believe the good ol' butt dyno - it is usually not calibrated correctly. Only way to see is by strapping it on an actual dyno. Additionally, I'd check TPS, MAF, plugs, etc....a good ol' tune-up

i'd got 260 poncams in my ride (pretty close to yours).i was very obvious once they were in of the difference.

0-3000 about the same.3000-4500 better pull.4500-6000 much easier than before.

i don't know about your ecu, but once i got my nistune'd ecu tuned after 3 hours of dyno time,i picked up 27hp atw,and my afr's went from 12ish to 13ish. win, win.

When I swapped my S4 in few years ago i didnt noticed a lot, kind of dissapointed. But after Calum ECU with basic map and CAI, it felt much faster. Ive gained 20hp.

Id recommend you checking your timing and get tuneable ECU. You will not regret.

THank you for the replies.

My timing is at 17 and 91 oct. I don't feel the need to tune the s4 while n/a soon. What's safe afr for n/a on WOT?

As I pointed out before, I can't punch first gear and spin my tires like other ppl with similar setups as mine. I measured them at 1.567" which indeed were s4s.

I am hoping it's my Ecu still adjusting. Its been 120 miles now and I remove the terminals at night, been about a wk

You only need the ecu to go "dead" once to get it to start relearning. If you power down every night you are resetting to base every night. Or maybe I misunderstood your post.

that's the way i read it too. just do it once, it'll learn from there.

yall read it right, im a newb haha. from what i've searched on the old forum, some ppl seemd to do it.

how long should i expect the ecm to ''learn''?

and agian, it kills me, why can't i rip first gear to redline!!?

here is a video of one

your ecu has long term and short term fuel trims,so it never really stops learning.

wtf is going on with first dude.starving/stuttering at 5k. was that a dodgy change or clutch slip.not good...

seems to be pulling really well in the other gears though. you should be happy enough with that, otherwise its ve or turbo time.

Hey

No that was not a video of me haha. I was just pointing out that at a certain rpm if you punch it (3,000 or 3.5k) it bounces off rev limiter as shown in video. Yea that car did pull hard. I don't think it's clutch slippage either, just raw power of the cams makin wheel spin.

I was sayin mine does not wheelspin like these other setups with s4s, I do not know if I'm feeling the full effects of these cams.

here is another video of a b14 with S4's, notice how he wheelspins like i've been reffering to this whole time lol at 3k rpms

I WANT TO WHEELSPIN WITH THESE CAMS MINE FEELS SLOW dissapointed all wk :\ I'll take to dyno to see whassup

I know it's silly to compare this specific perk of the cams, but I need to be reassured I am indeed driving an S4 powered SR20, these do lope and I do have lowend pwr loss, so those are a few symptoms. If i could wheelspin that'll be the end of it.
