To the best of my knowledge this de housing comes from a first generation RR motor. The bit that is a bit confusing is that its accepting the VE/RR filter, although that long nozzle is clearly suited to the longer highport filter style.

All the highports here have the factory oil cooler / heat exchanger housing type. Does anyone have any pics of that style filter housing?

I know for 100% fact that I used OEM Nissan lowport filters on my old VE. I believe it was SE-Rican that once put a lowport filter on his highport and the filter popped off while driving

94-96 P10 lowport DE's use the highport filter (taller filter, same as USDM highports)
B14 DE's use the shorter filter, same as the RR's and VE's.

How do I know this? I own a B14 and a P10.

Wrong way around.

The lowport and VE use the same filter. I have always used the lowport filter I believe for Mobil 1 its the M108 filter. The highport which is the one you have pictured that has the longer nozzle. Mobile 1 M102 is the filter to use for that. Can't use the lowport filter on the highport, it wont even fit. You also cant use the highport filter on the lowport as it will pop off, this is due to slight differences in both filter threads and the depth of that seat inside the filter.

WIX has a filter search on their site, which includes technical details:
WIX Filters - Products Catalog Home

Here are a few for you - note the thread difference, B13 3/4-16 vs B14 (and others) M20x1.5mm.
The burst pressure is much higher, but maximum flow slightly lower on the B13 filter, at least for the WIX brand filter.

Thanks for this ^^^^

Just had another good look at the two filter housings, and the VE filter does screw on, but not quite correctly. There is a slight bit of play but once the gasket side contacts the face of the housing it feels as if the filter is tightening, but in fact the threads are slighly smaller than the M20x1.5 yes.

I noticed most of the oil cooler kits are M20x1.5. Which leaves me with a dilema, as I want to run the DE style filter housing.

Will go put a wanted add up for a B14 filter housing.

You can get the lowport de filter housing and/or some of the jdm highports come with the newer style threaded housing. Just look around man.

There are two styles of the higher mounted filter housing. One with the long stub commonly found on the early highports (all highports in the US) or the one with the m20X1.5 and short threaded housing found on the lowport motors and the later model jdm highports. Again, just look around for one. Not hard to find.

We never had B14's or lowport motor here (aside from the RR which doesn't help me)

I'll try my luck at the engine importers, but they generally don't like breaking up motors.
