Hydrolic vs. Solid lifters
Ok, my p10 has the infamous ticking sound which I think is coming from the lifters not being bleed when my head was rebuilt awhile ago and I have a few questions. I don't know a whole lot about the engine internals and I've done alot of searching on this problem as well. What are the advantages of solid lifters over the stock hydrolic lifters and will it help me if my car is pretty much stock. I need to bleed my lifters and want to know if its worth it to upgrade? Thanks

you get more lift from solid lifters because they do not collapse.

Aren't solid lifters safer for constantly high revving motors?

Yes, they have advantages with regard to valve float and rocker arm breaking.

No need for solids on a stock motor. Soldis require more maintnence, but are a great benefit for high revs as said before.

But solids will be a PITA on a stock motor, still a PITA on high rev motors but you get the high HP so its all good.

Ah, thanks! I don't really know anything about HLA's or SLA's. I just barely found out how to bleed them

I was actually concerned as to whether I should invest in a set of Tomei solid lifters, but it doesn't look like they'll be necessary for my application. The only track I plan on seeing is the 1/4mi. track once and a while. No circuit style tracks or autocross for me.

Motor is fully built. But I still don't plan on constantly high rev ranges. Once and a while I like to keep it up there, but spirited driving isn't an every day thing for me.

Yes they do. The rocker arms are also secured to the lifter rather then sitting on top of it using the cam to hold it in place.

If you are fully built and want to run some C3's or 270-280* cams then run solids so you can if you want rev to 9k+ along with some supertech dual springs and rets.

Well I'm going with 272* cams, but I don't really care to rev to 9K, especially with a turbo car. I don't personally see the need to do so. Aside from that, I don't have any way of currently tuning beyond the 8K map limit, with the realtime.
