Is there any advantage to adding all these VE parts to a DE block, than starting from scratch with a 16VE lower end? Seems like it would be a bunch easier and less expensive to buy a VE, and sell the head.

Wow i was pretty convinced i wanted a nice runnin n/a de but at 4k i might be looking into a VE

Yes, from purely a performance for $ standpoint I would recommend a VE. It was a fun project however and I hope that it yields better reliability under race stress. Only time will tell.

BTW, a day later the same car made the same power on a NASA certified dynojet at SRMotorcars and 2 weeks prior the car made 191.8 hp and 160.29 ft/lbs on Church Automotive's dynapack. I'll scan it and post. It just shows how different dyno readings can be.

Is that a Topspeed strut brace?

I think that it is an old Courtesy Nissan piece. I have a stillen brace, but have to work clearance issues.
