GTi-R headstuds advantage
Hey guys,

What exactly are the advantages of using gti-r headstuds over regular AEBS or Golden Eagle studs on an all motor build? Worth it?

I'm sure you know what I meant but I'll state it anyways.

Using aftermarket GTI-R studs. As in the 12mm studs. What exactly are the advantages/disadvantages?

The larger diameter shaft allows for more clamping load with cheaper material hardware. It also allows for more clamping load total before the block threads or hardware fails.

The disadvantages are none, other than the cost and complexity of installing them in a non GTi-R block. The socket clearance for the larger nuts does get a bit tight.

Ben is crazy. They are bad ass studs that is for sure. Plenty of clearance to get on there and then take those suckers off. I just removed a few from my 54C engine a few weeks ago.

I meant the socket clearance is tight with 12mm hardware on a block designed for 11mm hardware. The 54C head I believe has plenty of clearance.

Also, I would never go through the hassle of going from 11mm to 12mm if I didn't have a damn good reason (making a bazillion horsepower).

I think this is the million dollar question. At what point does it become required. And has anyone calculated the actual clamping force increase you gain between the 11 and 12mm studs.

I've had a few failures on a sleeved sr20 block and was wondering if this mod will help. But I can't see a n/a motor on pump gas needing more than what a good GE stud can provide already.

Also, I've seen someone tap right into the water jacket accidentally when modding the block for the 12mm studs. Would hate that to happen on a $$$ block.

I used and reused arp for years under 600hp and it never failed me.

all motor.....none

turbo...very little as you you should go 1/2 inch because the stock threads go past the base of the gtir
