That's what I was thinking too, something with the TB, glad you got it fixed. I know when my throttle plate wasn't able to close it redlined like the end of the world immediatley upon start up, I had to have it towed to my house which was only 2 miles away because I was afraid of blowing the engine.

light up a cig and blow the smoke all over the engine and look for a vacume leak.

and make sure to have a fuel line disconnected while doing it

This might be the dumbest thing i have heard in a while

dumbest how exactly? smoke is flammable?? i think not. i found a vacume leak in my tb gasket this way.
