Def can, and keeping the weight down, which is why #1 I wouldn't put a cast iron block motor like the KA24DE into the 510. Sometimes it isn't so much how much power you have as much as what you do with it, and while stock trim KA may have more torque lower down, it won't rev w/o some significant mods anything like an SR20DE. I have both motors in various cars, trust me on this one.
My B13 (was Dave's then) spotted the 2 B15's both low end torque and upper end power, but Coleman's setup on the car ruled the day. Notice how far to the right of the curve it holds its peak hp (+37 whp over stock) with the JWT C2 cams + springs.
Every time I think about a swap or FI on my car, eventually I just stop and say "what for?", it's already faster around a track or autox course than quite a few cars with more hp, just due to the handling and high rev power.
Keep it light, bolt-ons, cams possibly, ECU tune. You'll be making plenty for the 510.
