Thread: Headers: paint, wrap, ceramic, or powder

So since i am doing this VE swap what would be the best way to care for the heat from the headers.

I have searched about wrapping the headers but I have also heard that wrapping headers can cause them to crack. So whats the next option for doing this?

And if ceramic or powder coating is better where in Conyers or Stone Mountain/Lilburn area is the best place to have this done.

Also might have my VE valve cover done at the same time.

The longest lasting item would be a heat shield bent and attached. My header wrap finally fell apart after 4 years of usage. Though next time I'm using titanium wrap like I did on my turbo downpipe.

I've planned on getting the white lightning coating from swain tech for a while.

Interesting... I suppose one could use the stock VE one and drill holes and secure it and that should work, no?


whats the cost factor for that? its interesting thats for sure.

I honestly wouldn't drill anything in the header especially if you have an ebay one, it would weaken it too much.

no, i ment drill holes in the factory heat shield to make it work... i have impul headers anyway, not overly cheaply made. i hope lol

I have used both wrap and Swain's White Lightning and prefer the Swain coating. Back in the day I had a Hotshot Gen 5 that I had Swain coated. Only downside is the white doesn't stay white for long, and fluids that leak onto it then burn into some unattractive colors. Later I had an SSAC header that I used DEI wrap on, it held up for a couple years but eventually started getting ragged looking. On my Super Freak 4-1 header I used 2 coats of a silver header paint over the Swain's White Lightning coating prior to first installation. The paint has held up very well.

Joe, where did you get the white lightening done.. painting over would be nice too for a better look.

coating depends on the material. stainless-i prefer to leave natural, mild steel-ceramic.
