P11 G20 SR20DE + SR16VE (N1) pistons, what fuel?
Okay, so a friend of mine is planning to upgrade his RR LP SR20DE in his P11 Primera GT (Or G20) with either 16VE or 16VE N1 pistons. According to many sources (one being Greg V), the CRs will be as follows:

16VE: a CR of 11.5:1
16VE N1: a CR of 10.9:1

He's also planning to throw in some Piper cams.

The question he has is:

Can he use 95RON (or 91 in America) with either setup?

The friend he's talking about is me..
I've made a account on this forum to follow this threat..

Hope to hear some information..
The pipercams i'm going to use have a 270 degrees duration and 11,63mm valvelift..
Greg V told me this lift wil work with both types of pistons..

and what to do with the ignition timing?
STD timing is 15 degrees before TDP, do i have to adjust this?

you should be using 93 and above.

91 is cutting it close, but anything can be domne with tuning and less timing,

You will need tunable ECU. Without ECU all these mods are useless and you wont see gains that you should with setup like this.

Ok, in doing a similar Setup and as far as i have researched, a standar SR20DE non-RR will give you 11.8:1 CR with the SR16VE and 10.9:1 CR with the N1s.

You will have to tunne your engine with a chipped ECU like nistune or something like that, as you will have to take some timing of the tables to avoid detonation. i would recomend you to use the SR16VE and the 270 cams... with a tune... you will definitly go to 170whp...

remember that the SR20s like big exhausts so you would have to use a 3" exhaust to get the most of that setup...

Good luck!

If you have it near you, give E85 a shot. But if im correct, the gains with E85 on a N/A motor aren't as significant than with a FI motor.

Thanks for your input guys, much appreciated.

Let's see what he's gonna do with the info.

Hello,

I have a P11 GT with SR16VE pistons too (and Catcams 518 with 298/288 duration 11.6mm lift).

I think CR would be around 12.1-12.3:1 (11.5:1 is for the usdm model, non flat top pistons, 9.5 CR stock).

Nice setup. 189bhp here before mapping and running überlean -hope to be around 210-215 once steve@fctuning does some magic with Nistune-.

I almost forgot, I just use BP Ultimate and Shell V-Power fuel, 98-99 RON.
