must have been old plugs, Ive seen that happen on a couple cars that came in for work. 210k miles on original spark plugs is nothing to shake a head at. Civic came in with 210k on the clock and what looked to be the original oem plugs, The electrode was almost worn down under the insulation and the groun strap was worn very much so as well. Plug gap was probably around .150 or close over 5 times the recommended gap, lol. Ive never seen a set of plugs that bad. Amazing thing was while the motor was cold or on first startups, it would run absolutely perfect. As soon as it got anywhere near operating temp it would misfire, any more than 1/4 throttle it would just bog and not go anywhere, misfiring like crazy and so on. Replaced the plugs and all was good to go for that issue.

It is because there was probably a small crack on the plug and when things heat up they expand. I am unsure without seeing the plug in person but I would imagine there is a small crack in the porcelain. What ever it is, it must be due to thermal expansion of some sort.
