Just degree'd my jwt C2s
Yesterday I degree'd my jwt C2 cams. Below is a link the picture of the valve events. All readings were taken at the the valve spring retainer. Also I have some jun adjustable cam gears set at -4 int/ +4 exh. If i'm reading my results right i'm getting 204* duration at 0.050" on intake cam and 196* duration at 0.050" on exhaust cam. Now I should mention my engine hasn't ran since sept 2010, but I poured fresh oil in cylinders and cam lobes. Anyone have any advice on what the cams should be set at? With this setup, I get the best idle and no hesistation from 1000-3000rpm. However it does lose a lot of midrange torque compared to 0/0, but it makes the most top end power. I should mention that I don't have a header, just the oem manifold with an open down pipe.

Straight up 0, 0 if it were me.

Do you want the torque or do you want the horsepower?

Are you using solid lifters?

No its a stock high port head, with the stock HLAs.

You can't accurately degree cams with hydraulic lifters. You have to use use solid lifters.

Exactly, and that's why the # are way off. The HL have some give in them since the oil bleeds out. They pump up after the engine start and supply oil pressure.

For perspective, the stock cam check in around 200* @ .050".

I didn't know that about HLA's, would an alternative be to just put the dial indicator on the cam lobe itself? That should eliminate the HLA and give me the raw duration and lift.

Isn't the point of JWT is that they did all of the topic at hand, for you?

No, you can't put the dial indicator on the lobe and get the degree. With that method you can only get the Lobe Lift, and if you times that with the rocker arm ratio - lash, you can get the valve lift.

Degreeing a DE is a bitch. You have to install solid lifters and lash them, which is time consuming.
