I definetely see a Dog III coming

I guess the Dog I has a built bottom end, in the other hand the VE remains with an untouched bottom end.

A 90mm sleeved bottom end for the VE for the Dog II would be nice

What are the requirements for that 'class?' Those cars(all cars on the track) seemed to be very equally powered. Is there a min/max hp requirement or something? How about weight?

I guess coming from dead last to 2nd after some guy crashes in front of me, taking me out is no good. Me making a mistake after being frustrated by the guy who made me crash blocking me for 6 laps is bad though.

The DE has SR16VE pistons and eagle rods with a cleaned up but not really ported head with C3 cams. it makes around 180 whp and a buttload of torque. We are putting C6M cams in next week and doing more tuning. Hopefully we can get it to around 190.

The VE is a long rod motor but pretty much stock VE with N1 cams. It makes 205 whp but has crappy torque and a narrow powerband.

The DE matches the gearing pretty good and is faster everywhere except the latter half of the oval. The VE struggles to stay in the powerband and needs a close ratio. It is slower except down the longest straights. If it had a close ratio it would be pretty good.

The Dog 1 was on Hankooks and the Dog II was on Nitto's. The Hankooks are about 1.5 seconds a lap faster but wear 2x faster. When Dai and I drove the Dog II in testing we were almost the same lap time.

So the Dog I is faster than the Dog II by 1.5-2 seconds a lap.

NINJA EDIT: Mike beat me to it!

Going by what he tested way back in 2004 and proved to work well Id guess the DE has C3 or C6M cams, 11 or 12:1 CR and somewhere between 190-200whp.
Didnt Mike post up recently saying they adjusted the rod/stroke ratio of their VE and is now running 205whp?

At this power level a DE can match a VE with the right parts. (VE is just better equipped to begin with).

I was running 186whp in my Autech's 11:1 Highport DE, and havent touched the bottom end. Just a good cylinder head, intake/exhaust and C3 cams.
Since then ive fitted a shorter runner intake manifold and dialled the cams for more overlap...i expect to be up around 195whp now, which i will comfirm soon.

The goal is 200whp on the stock Autech bottom end.

Its good to see some people still appreciate the DE.

Be careful with DE short runner manifolds on NA motors. Although I got excellent gains on FI engines, on NA stuff I always lost power and made really narrow powerbands.

I tried a 7 inch runner which was horrible and a 9 inch runner which made the same peak power and ruined the powerband.

I wasted a lot of money on intake experiments. The best results was an extrude hone stock intake which didn't do that great either. A couple of extra hp.

Mike I have a new rule for you.... You have to post at least once a week on this forum.
It seems there is not much new information, which is why I moved on the the S. Your posting might actually put me back in an Ser.
