SR2*DE - Advice
Ayup guys..

Names Ammar from Manchester, U.K..

This is the whip..

Started off like this

Then went to this

And after an SR20 conversion

Right cut that shit out..

I've got this urge to build a motor but it HAS to be a DE.. yes VE's are very good etc etc.. but i wanna stick with DE.

I've started some work on a 89J head (Lowport Non RR with Sodium Filled Valves) Mildly p&p'd

Right my plans for this are as follows:

Catcams 1601515 Lift = .501 Duration = 298°
BC Valves Springs & Retainers
Roller Rocker HLA's
Tomei or Greddy Rocker Arm Stoppers
Shims/Guides
1mm head skim
1.2mm head gasket
90mm 12.5:1 pistons
Darton sleeves
All ARP Bolts
All ACL Bearings
Manley/Eagle Rods
Lightened and knife edged 4cw Crank
Lightened pulleys
Fully balanced bottom end
VE Oil Pump
Custom or 3" Header
Custom intake or ITBs
Fidanza Fly
ACT Clutch
255 Fuel Pump

Now first of all any advice or "issues" with that spec list?
Secondly what power should i be expecting (don't wanna get my hopes up)

Moving on to next main question

Im seriously tempted to buy a 91mm crank kit with rods pistons etc..

91mm crank with 90mm pistons = 2316cc roughly?
What do you think from the above spec list would not be able to handle the stroker kit.. or what would cause issues/concerns?

Cheers ya'll

Ammar

Is blowing ££££.££ Boring/Stroking it really worth it when you'll be stuck with an 8000rpm rev limit with a DE anyway??

P.S as I've said to you - DO NOT bother with Non Roller Rocker - all the decent NonRR Catcams are Solid Lifter Profiles.
Just Stick with your Roller Rocker motor, get some Catcams 518's and supporting mods and you'll hit 200 WHP.

OR

Do your Boring/Stroking and support it with a stronger & safer VE head.

I SPENT IN EXCESS OF £1000 ON A DE HEAD AND SCRAPPED IT WHEN I REALISED HOW UNSAFE IT WOULD BE ABOVE 8000RPM - JUST DON'T BOTHER.

All.

As of last night, after i realised the Catcams 515s are Solid Lifter Profiles i gave up on them! So i am defo sticking with the RR.. I've got that Norris Design Head so gonna whip that off and have a look at that.

joe speaks the truth. bolt-on cheapness for DE, VE for real power and safer-ra too.

i think the other main issue here, aside from wasting money on a de that probably won't make much more than 200whp at 90mm, is the intricacies and difficulty behind building a big bore engine like the 24ves and such,

you gonna pay someone to build it all too? cos thats mega money

or build it yourself with no engine building experience?

i'd guess there's a lot goes into the 3ve and 24ve builds that doesn't get mentioned on here, and without those details you're destined for even less power

miko's 90mm de made around 200whp iirc, and it's not like it would have been a half arsed build if he did all the work on it

Might as well of just posted on aoc . You know my thoughts on this already..there becomes a point where the de just can't keep up because of its inferior head flow. Having said that id still like to see a de making over 210whp.

Haha seeing as its only AOC members posting in my thread

As i say, yeah VE flows better etc etc but i wanna really push the DE to what i can and see from there

Don't do the rocker arm stoppers.

If you're going with sleeves and bored, why not go all the way to 92mm?

All ARP hardware sounds good except the headstuds and the ones that interfere with the upper oil pan. I think they are the main cap bolts, but maybe they are the rod bolts?

I've read/heard a few horror stories about them too

Not thought about tht to be honest

What do you reccommend?
