We're back to another type of "why mod a Sentra" question?

lol. I've had 6 Sentra SE-R's and two B14's, all but 2 were modified, some heavily. I never asked "why mod a Sentra" - I'm just questioning the value ($8,000?) of putting the VQ motor in one, when there's two major other options with 1000x the information and products, VE or DE-T swap.

But hell, if you have the money to spend, go for it. None of my business what you do with your car. I like vanilla ice cream better than chocolate. I like standing on the beach rather than swimming in the ocean. Everyone's different.

What is your definition of heavily modified?

A VQ'd Altima and a VQ'd b13/14 are two totally different animals. Not even close to comparison.

Ask me how I know.

I'm *SURE* that VQ35DE in an B13 will be faster than the VQ35DE Altima. My Altima SE-R w/ all the options, power/ leather heated seats, 4 doors, 18" wheels, big brakes, sunroof etc. weighs about 3,560lbs. A B13 weighs what, 2,560lbs from the factory with the original SR20DE engine? Depends on what options you have. If you have no sunroof and no A/C when it was brand new in
1992, like mine was, and remove all the power steering stuff and put in the Sentra E manual rack, you're already down like 200lbs.

I don't know the weight differences between the SR20DE/SR20VE engine & transmission vs. the VQ35DE engine & transmission are but a 3.5 liter 24 valve vs. a 2.0 liter 16 there's gotta be quite a difference. The transmissions may be closer though.

Oh, my definition of heavily modified in a SR20DE/VE is all the bolt-ons, I mean all of them (even Flywheels and pulleys) and doing internal work (cams, valves, pistons, port/polishing etc.) or a turbo setupe w/ a beefed up engine to handle it. (Anything T28 or larger)

Besides swapping the VQ into a B15 (and even that has limited info) there is very little information on a VQ swap into a B13/B14 compared to literally thousands of pages of threads and posts/websites discussing the SR20VE swap to the B13/B14. I'm going to assume it's going much more of a challenge.

If you do the VQ swap yourself and run into problems there's going to be limited info on what to do. Right now, if you're doing a VE swap into a B13 you can do a search and thousands of posts and several hundred different topics will come up in detail. I know for the problems I've had, I just searched and found out whatever I needed to know.. so I guess you're somewhat moving into uncharted territory. I just don't completely understand why not just get a $800 VE motor which has been proven, especially with boost, to be an awesome swap. (Ashton's SR20VE-T = highest trap speed EVER in a B13)

But I'd love to see what happens if people start swapping in the VQ's into the B13's.. would love to see videos and such, and output numbers.. so please go ahead and go for it....

Next time I have a VE longblock out of a car, I'll get the weight difference for you... IIRC, ditch AC and PS and move the battery to the trunk and your weight balance remains pretty close...

The VQ35 is approx 315lbs w/o trans and the SR20DET is approx 305lbs w/o trans from what I've found online.

What is the VQ with the trans, any idea? Also, how about just weights of the actual motors, VQ35DE and the SR20VE? That's pretty damn good. Only 15 lbs more vs. the DET - put the battery in the trunk like someone else already mentioned and that should even it out

This swap into a B13/14 or even 15 will be sweet!

Im picking up a VQ in the next couple weeks and installing it into my 02 Spec V.
Gonna fab up my own mounts and wire in the engine.

Gotta pick up a maxima 6spd bell housing also to install onto my spec v trans.

Overall looks to be a fairly simple swap.
