Thread: about trannies

anyone here ever try to run a short geared transmission on a regular usdm de? like a sr16ve transmission or a b15 transmission? anyone had any experience on it? does really kill your top end compare to a de with regular transmission?




tried to search for it and did not find any info on it cept for a chart of gear ratios.

I thought about the SR16 tranny in my DE, but its my daily and the the High RPMs in 5th would have killed my MPGs... if the car wasn't a daily and just a street terror it would be a different story.

yeah i thought of this too, anyway any mods that makes your car fast means decrease in your mpg. it would've been nice if that werent the case. how much mpg do you think that de would get with that sr16 tranny?

i just havent seen any videos or anyone having a short geared transmission installed on a de i just would like to know how it would be with a de, or ve for that matter.

I'm curious too, my plans are to have a 2.3L SR built and I have a spare B15 LSD transmission I was gonna mate with it...

I'm running an sr18de transmission that cam standard in the Autech's over here and it's nice but probably too low for my liking. I can barely hit 100kph (~60MPH) in 2nd gear and at cruising at 100kph/~60mph it is sitting on about 3500 rpm. I would hate to imagine what cruising in 5th with this gearbox and boost would be like.

Sounds likes a regular DE transmission. Heck, sounds like almost every manual transmission in existence (stupid 0-60 times reported by magazines make OEMs design wacky ratios to keep 0-60 times low but overall performance suffers).

I definatly wouldnt run a boosted car with an SR16 tranny, so if that's the plan(or even thought about) stay with your stock tranny until you boost then go for the B15
