yeah, it's looking more liek $15,000

so this brings my first purchase to:

another ride!!

if' i'm going to spend $15,000 on the motor, I'm going to restore the car almost as well as Shawn B has done is..

So i've been looking for another cheap/fun car..

well, i have been reading more and more about this.

i like (for example) the VQ30 motor and how it revs compared to the VQ35 motor (have owned both in various forms). The vq30 is closer to square (though still under square) and to attain the 3.5L displacement for the vq35, they bored it out a little bit, and significantly increased stroke.

With that in mind, I also do not like the QR or KA 4 cylinders because of their long stroke.

I'm starting to be turned off from the 92mm stroker kit.

I think I'm going to bore out my recenly purchased RR motor to 91mm, get a lowport head, bigger cams than my current S3 cams, ASP header instead of SSAC.. and call it a day. This should give me around 200 whp for a LOT less cash.. seeing as I already have the block in my possesion and BC2 cams are a lot cheaper than Kelford cams.. I also have a lowport head available in KC for cheap from Gomba..AKA luQas...

step 1: buy another vehicle - done

just sent a deposit for a saffire blue nx2000 with 99k miles on the clock.

If you don't like stroke (I don't blame you) you could bore out a SR16VE to 92mm for 1,827cc displacement and a bottom end that would rev to the moon.

Well, I would like the revs... But I would prefer more displacement.

SR20xx block bored to 92mm is 2.3L and would rev very well too...

my big problem now is, I have two cars to mod!!! I need to sell my baseball card collection!! LoL

ok so lets get on the "critique vq's idea's" wagon again.. aside from talking me out of an NA DE, I would like to hear what I need to do to this motor that I don't already know...

here's my latest plan..

SR20RR block bored to 92mm by mazworx (SR23DE)
lowport head ported & polished
mazworx header
keep my 2.5" exhaust
big cams, not sure which yet, taking opinions.. probably BC3's (which are a little less aggressive than JWT C2's and much less expensive)
springs/retainers from crower

I want a daily driver that has more than a little lopey idle and lots of top end power. I'm hoping for 200 whp..

where would I redline with 92mm x 86mm setup and BC3 cams?

what else would need to be reinforced besides my springs/retainers ??

oh, i am mating this to a B15 LSD transmission where I plan on putting in a P11 5th gear...

The motor will make 215-220 WHP. No need to go any further.

My 90x86 DE made 200 WHP so every .1 on a DE is about 15 WHP so there you go.

with stock crank and big cams, I don't need to do anything with rods or anything other than springs/retainers, right?? big bore only requires sleeving.. right?

215 to 220 is about all i will ever need from a 2500 lb car.. that is good news to me.

you never told me what I owe you for your knowledge.. lol

86 mm 12.5:1 CP Pistons
Manley Rods
ACL Bearings
Head Ported & Polished with Supertechs
Kelford 184c Cams
Cam Gears (Unsure of which ones)
BJ Racing Intake Manifold
370cc Injectors
ASP or Fuji Header
3" Exhaust back to a Vibrant black muffler
Z32 Maf
Fidanza Flywheel
Full Pulley Set (Unsure if I wanna do a crank pulley)

Honest question, with big kelford cams on stock bore/crank size, is 370cc injectors & 3" exhaust really necessary? I've heard when going N/A on a DE it's never necessary, unless I suppose you go 92mm - which I would imagine a 92mm bored DE with JWT C2 cams and this motor (at 86mm) should be about the same PEAK output (of course the VE would be better low end).. so maybe my 92mm DE build should require the same.. hmm...

why do i have to be so different!! lol

I just want something different. I currently have S3 cams and I love how the car sounds like a turd at idle, and shakes the car with my JWT motor mounts, etc.. But then lights up and surprises people above 5500 rpm.. I don't want a luxury car, if I had a P10/11 I would certainly go with a VE. I have owned an M3, 740iL, G35 sedan and a brand new 2003 Maxima SE 6MT in the past.

I have been over and over this several times, but it's not too old... I know that a VE has a higher compression stock, better flowing head, low cam lobe is timed less aggressively than the high lobe... to give you not only more lift/duration, but better timing during low RPM and high RPM... I know that I could reach the same peak horsepower (~200 whp) in a VE without boring to 92mm and just using N1 cams. Maybe more with SR16 pistons, like ~215 whp and a great tune.

Also, the VE will have MORE driveability at low RPM. I know this. The VE is superior in every way.. except at bringing a smile to my face.. i have driven one that was well tuned in 2005 in New Jersey. it may have had 175 whp to the wheels.. i'm guessing. it was quick... i dunno. I am not 100% stuck on the DE, but I am highly leaning towards it. I guess i'm old school.

Here is a quick approximation/rundown of the SR23DE setup that I'm aiming for. I'm probably missing some items from this list.

I have already purchased the following items:
($500) ASP Header - used
($100) Roller Rocker SR20 block/crank
($100) lowport SR20 head
($300) 2.5" mandrel exhaust
($225) UR pulleys (all four) - used
($050) STi Muffler
$1275 - already spent

items semi-related to the build, but not really the N/A beast itself:
($190) JWT motor mounts - used
($500) B15 LSD 5speed transmission
$690 - already spent

I still need:
($1850) 92mm darton sleeve insert by mazworx (overhaul block too)
($1000) VEMS <- i still have more research to do on ECU
($100) wideband o2 sensor <- i still have more research to do on ECU
($300) ported/polished lowport head <- i still have more research to do on "head work"
($???) Five Angle Valve Job <- i still have more research to do on "head work"
($???) larger valves <- i still have more research to do on "head work"
($???) bowl work on cylinder head <- i still have more research to do on "head work"
($???) Individual throttle bodies or larger MAF and larger single TB
($100) nismo FPR
($???) 333 cc injectors
($???) mazworx 92mm head gasket
($???) custom intake manifold
($360) BC3 cams
($300) BC springs/retainers
($140) Hot Shot (replica) LowPort CAI
($1000) misc gaskets, seals, new sensors
($225) dyno tuning
$8,000 - minimum left to go point out anything I forgot, please!

expecting 225 whp depending mostly on cams and quality of the tune.
