that would be a cheap way to 180 whp.. wouldn't a better header get you closer to 190? like ASP or this new mazworx?

That the way I see it too. A form of good'ol school tuning, no fancy cam that make your engine better. I like it raw, shaking and with a lopey idle !

So true. People get into my car and ask what is wrong. I tell them it's happy to see me! (:
I then do the night at a roxbury head nod in time to it's lump...

VE on high cams always FTW

I made the mistake of hooking up the VVL solenoids wrong (high cam Always) and it gave the same lumpy effect at idle.

The cool thing about it is with the flip of a switch I was back to normal.

Sorry to get off topic.. Looking foward to your build. keep us posted.

I really don't see the point in building a de. But I won't come in here and ruin your thread. If you want 200whp de go look up mike ks old de build on the old forum. Iirc he made 200whp. With a nice burns header and c6m cams...

Andreas also had a big bore de that made pretty good power, I forgot how much though. You should be able to find more info on these on the old forum.

That is the proper way to do it, but it will no longer ROLLER-ROCK!!!

Miko did 200 too.

180HP/145Tq is good and all but, thats a lot of money. C6M cams will give you all the rough idle you might ever want if JWT is willing to make a set for you. Rough idle is not as fun when you are caught in traffic or when the car is starting cold.

My god, I'd rather drive my VE than go back to my old DE high compression S5 setup. And I bet my VE is faster anyway.

i have a question, lets say you have a VE motor, with the "high lobe" cam of xxx lift and yyy duration.

Now take a DE lowport with the same size cam, all other things being equal, won't they make the same power after the point where VVL kicks in on the
VE?

Or is there something else on the VE that's giving it a significant power advantage? the oil squirters allow to keep the motor cooler, and thats a slight advantage, and I've read that the exhaust ports are larger, which is also an advantage.

All things being equal, what is the "after VVL kick-in" power difference??

I know the low end torque will be greater on a VVL motor with the smaller cam at low RPM.. so that's not what Im asking about.

the VE head has a better intake mani, dual valve springs, larger ports int and exh all that good stuff:o
