I think it's just a way to do your engine. You may like it old school without variable thing and every other gizzmo. I like it that way,it's not just a matter of max power. VE are very fine engine but that not what I want.

i might go with a mild VE in my NX2000, but my SE-R will be raw..

i need a clip of ODB 'ew baby i like it raw.. yeah baby i like it raaaw"

Yes, but technically it will no longer roller rock as you will change to the old type non roller rockers. Dont argue!!!

as soon as you remove the actual roller rockers, it's no longer a RR in my book..

Sure, but you know what i meant.

I would really like to see some nicely built RR DE with big cams, 4-1 header, etc...

VE?

Or is there something else on the VE that's giving it a significant power advantage? the oil squirters allow to keep the motor cooler, and thats a slight advantage, and I've read that the exhaust ports are larger, which is also an advantage.

All things being equal, what is the "after VVL kick-in" power difference??

I know the low end torque will be greater on a VVL motor with the smaller cam at low RPM.. so that's not what Im asking about.

Actually no, its not only the cams. Otherwise the VE would make the same 180HPs discussed in this thread for a very worked DE and be seen as a great accomplishment. With a VE you expect to make 180WHP with a only a few bolt-ons.

The head is different and flows more. The intake ports are bigger and someone correct me if Im wrong but I see the exhaust ports the same size as a DE, at least on my SR16VE head. I even think the VE valves are somewhat smaller and still...

Dont think about it anymore, go VE. If you still insist in lumpey idle, oh well, activate the solenoids permanently with key ON!!!

or I've thought of a custom cam with S4 type "low end" cam lobes and C3 "high end" cam lobes..

my deal is though, I have a RR block that I practically got for free, and a low port head/block that I also got for cheap.. why not increase exh/intake ports and buy a VE intake manifold from an NEO VVL, don't those have the best intake manifold?

I might go VVL in my NX and built DE in my SE-R..

Have you considered going ITB's on your de build? That will make it raw!
