I guess there is not enough clearance in the valves so it sounds like to me they are kissing the pistons or slapping them. Maybe you have custom notched pistons now??

I know nothing about your SR18DE engine. I have the same cams in my 95 USDM low port and it works well to 7800 rpm on a stock valvetrain.

Yours does not sound normal in any way.

Should i re-shim the valve clearance or get the top notch piston?

First find out what it is doing and than fix that. You can see if that is happening by rotating the engine manually and see if u hear it during that step.

Then you can go with either or of your two alternatives once you have identified what really is the problem.

What is the compression ratio of a stock SR18DE anyway?

i have done rotating the engine so many times before i start the engine. There is no sound or stuck during the rotation. i'm not sure about the compression ratio.. does your engine sound same after installed the cam and before install bc cam.

No, i do not have any aggressive ticking like ur engine does. I do not know what it could be. I did not need to re shim anything also.

If u already rotated it before, maybe u just have a very noisy sr

You've got something loose in there. You lost a shim, got one turned sideways, maybe the lifters need to be bled...something is up though, it's way too noisy. It's in the head though IMO. Doesn't sound rough enough for the valves to be striking the piston in which case they would be bent right off the bat and the motor would run poorly if at all.

What do you mean i lost a shim? i have read in fsm also about HLA need to be bleed..if HLA got some air in it can emitting some noise..the motor run good but only the noise..i have try to run 3rd gear until 5.5k rpm with nothing problem..did you think the noise will damage my engine if i run 7-8k rpm..this engine not tune yet..im using e-manage.
