Mein Gawd - there's oil there!?!
Just took off my spark plug wires for the first time since putting in my VE. I found out the previous owner didnt put the spark plug tube gasket in when he put the vc back on. The plug tubes are now covered in oil. I jammed some tissues down there to sop up as much as possible, and then took out the plugs, they were covered, so I tossed them. Obviously when I took the plugs out some oil got into the cyl chamber.

All this leading to this question: How do I avoid fouling a new set of plugs if there is a bit of oil in the cyl.?

Cold crank the engine with all spark plugs removed and injectors disconnected. Put a towel over the valve cover or in the spark plug valleys to catch the oil spray.

Don't sweat the details or the oil too much. It won't really do much damage.

How expensive are these plugs? =D

If you're really worried, fix the valve cover gasket problem and then throw some cheap piece of crap plugs in there and run the engine for a minute or two (hell, use the old plugs you threw away) and then install the good plugs.

I'd run coppers temporarily.

I would much rather run coppers all the time, anyway. They're $2 each vs. $6 each for a platinum plug. There's really not much of a difference I could see between running a platinum or iridium, vs. a copper.

I swear to God stock (at least for the B13) is bkr5e, which also makes sense why the bkr7e is recommended for medium turbo builds (because our medium is everyone else's extreme). However, I'm not sure why I think 5 is the right heat range. It's from the FSM or something I believe. :o

for us guys who live in colder temperatures the 6's are better right? I always get the 'hot/cold plug' stuff confused---oh and I have a VE.
