Thread: sr18de

hi guys,

just want to check, did anyone ever did a sr18de with sr20de pistons ? a friend of mine is currently planning on doing this but wants to be sure its actually do-able on the sr18 block.

I think sr18 has smaller bore so block is gonna have to be bore out.

but can it bored out safely to take the bigger sr20 piston?

is it the bore thats smaller or the stroke thats smaller? i know that with the older datsun engines the L18 has the same size pistons as the L20 an the blocks are the same but the stroke of the crank is different, an i think different rods..

but im prolly wrong so it'll be interesting to find out..

He's one guy that did this build. He used sr20ve pistons, bored out the block, tomei cams, and etc..

iv asked this before about the crank its the same crank as an SR20, its a 1.8 because its a smaller bore.. so just have it bored out to 86mm and you can drop in any SR20 piston you desire..

this guy from malaysia did a good job on his engine but went too far off in the local malaysian forums and opened a real can of worms with the vtec vs b14 sr20 topic.poor fella, but a pure nissan fella at heart.

anyway, just got the block from the machine shop today and the sr20de pistons can fit but its bored out nearly to the max. will be doing the installation soon. if anyone want pics of the build i can post some here.
