93 octane? are you guys running high-compression and/or turbo setups?

No I run 93 Octane in everything I own... The 93 just burns cleaner.

I have increased timing and at high rpms if I'm not running 93 my knock sensor kicks on and I get an engine light

My SE-R before I started modding would get me right at 30 all the time, couple road trips netted 33-34mpg. Once I started modding (I/H/E/pullies/cams/clutch) I was still getting around 29mpg. If you are only getting 170 per tank, you have vacuum leaks or exhaust leaks or a bad O2 or bad emissions somewhere. There is something causing you to run rich. Could be anything from a bad fuel pump to bad injector to O2. Start digging!

I can get 350+ out of my car on a full tank when I drive normally.

The winter gas has more oxygen in it to help cars burn better during cold winter months so mileage will drop a little, as does performance a little bit since there is less energy to burn to take advantage of the added oxygen.

170 miles out of a full tank of gas is unacceptable unless you floor it during each and every red light, stop sign, everywhere you drive would cause that mileage to be that low. I don't think you are driving like that so check some things suggested previously.

I would start with the O2 sensor.

^It's a dig for sure! I'm going through the jerking/bucking stage dig right now on my car. Tune up city, here I come! As my co-worker would say, I'M BUILT FOR THE DIG!

Common misconception. It just has a higher resistance to knocking; it doesn't burn cleaner, or give you more power. People say left and right about how it does, but the science of fuel doesn't lie.

^^ This makes sense. If you're knocking or pinging, hell yeah kick it up to 91 or 93. If you don't ping on 87, you're just throwing money away putting anything higher in.

My car runs worse on 87 than compared to 93 and this was before I even began to add anything on my car.

My car ran better on 93 than 87 when it was bone stock. I use 93 now. If I were to purchase 87 in my next fuel-up; the car will run like ****.

How many motors have you worked on?? Yea the higher octane gas burns faster and cleaner. 87 gas is terrible and I know people that are tight wads run it THINKING they are saving money. That 2 dollars a tank must really brake the bank for some people.
