16VE pistons and VE Head?
I was wondering if you did the 16VE pistons in the DE block to raise compression for a NA motor. Then at some point you converted to the VE head, would you loose displacement and compression? Or would you have higher compression VE?
I want to do the 16VE pistons at some point but i also would like to do the VE head at some point as well. I know the VE would be better but i was not sure what this would yeild.

Lots of people go with the VE head when they want the 9.5 compression ratio of their DE 'cause it's good for boost (read: VE-T).

If you are going thru the trouble of dropping in SR16VE pistons, I think you'll see a decent gain even without the VE head. You'll need an ECU though, most definitely, in order to run them correctly. I think you can benefit from some cams also. (read: high comp N/A DE) OH and you won't lose displacement, that is related to the crank since the SR16 cams also have a 86mm bore

Lastly, I think an SR20VE swap would be fine also. Swap over the SR16VE cams because they are much more aggressive. It all depends on what you know how to do, what you are willing to earn, and what your budget dictates. Good luck. PM if anything.

OH and next time, please search instead of just asking. This forum and the old one BOTH HAVE tons of info from predecessors. Learn by example. Later.

I knew about the 16ve pistons for a cheap N/A DE and i have heard about the DE with a VE head but i never heard of both. Since you are saying it has been done i will do some research.
Thanks

you can put it back together with the right headgasket and that will bring the cr right back down to 12.0:1. i dont remember the exact thickness. you can also shave matterial off the top of the sr16 pistons to get the cr back down to where you want it.

what is the compression os a 16ve piston ve motor? i'm looking to build a high compression e-85/race gas motor that will be race only. thinking de 8 weight de bottom 16ve pistons and a ve head. looking for high compression it will have custom cams and ported head.

i believe its like 12.5ish. basically perfect for an e85 build. i dont think 13s would be a problem with that 100+ octane corn syrup

thats what i'm thinking this is going ot be a drag only car. i was thinking if i get around 13-13.5 i would be in the e-85 or 118 with nitrous. but i'm still reading.......... some nice custom forged pistons would be fun.... some people i know said custom diamon pistons of je would not be that much and be well worth the money.

It will be 13.3+, depending how much needs to be skimmed to get back to flat.

Oh one thing though using a VE block you would have to notch the pistons since the VE has oil squirters. DE block your good to go though. Post if you ever make this combo work. I haven't really heard of any real numbers from someone using 16ve pistons + 2.0 Displacement + VE head. Would be an interesting read if it ever happens.
