cam ??'s
ok i have a 93 SE-R with header, test pipe, hotshot CAI, HKS muffler, 2.5" exhaust to the testpipe, 2.25" exhaust testpipe back, timing at 15* (till i get new pulley). what i'm needing to know is what would be a good cam for me. this is my daily driver and i run a delivery route in it, so i need to be able to still do alot of stop and go aswell as longterm idleing, but really want to get some more performance. eventually i'm gonna try to get this thing into atleast a mid 14 1/4 mile time without the nos. because of the stop and go driving i'm not wanting to go turbo, and would like to keep it as an automatic (for now). thanks for the info and advice in advance.

S4's would be your best bet for the most up top power. If you want something a bit more mild use the S3's. Direct drop in and you are set.

Mid 14's in a automatic? Not going to happen. Stay with the stock cams if you are auto. The auto ECU will own you. The best thing for you to do is get a WAI setup with a crank pulley and call it a day. You deliver in this thing, so don't beat on it spilling peoples food lol. You have a back up car?

well i actually deliver newspapers with it, so i actually drive pretty radical out there, since there is noone else on the road and the cops here all know me and don't care.

and yes i plan on putting a manual in it but not until spring time.

lastly, why wouldn't this thing go mid 14's with cams, tune, and some good tires?

what's the driveability of the S4 cams, and how much of a difference is it between the S3 and S4 performance wise?

^As is? The automatic ECU/tranmission will not let you.

I say go for the S4's, I had them when I still had the DE and I loved them. I also had them before I did the 5 speed swap, even with the auto, it was a very noticable. I will say this though, with the S4's, CAI, header, UR pullies, the auto tranny did not last long with abuse. I just wanted to have fun with it before swapping in a manual, and I did. But, the 5 speed swap will make the biggest difference.

well the auto has been rebuilt and strengthend by the previous owner, so i hope it will hold up for a while.

jer 760.... did you ever take yours to the track while still an auto? if so what did it run?

^Interesting you say this about the notice. How high could you rev with the auto ECU? I have some friends up north that have done a lot of testing on a auto SR20DE NX and the results seemed best with stock cams to keep the low end torque.
