DE head on VE block??
Hi everyone i was wondering if i could use my highport JDM head on a VE block a friend of mine gave me.
I am currently starting to built a spare DE that i have and i was wondering if i could use the VE block with the 8cw DE stroke DE pistons and rods and put the DE head on the VE block.
I basically want to use the ve block because of the oil squirter advantage and the better oil pump.
Thanks in advance.

You also get the advantage of not having the girdle. I think their is an oil hole on the Ve's that goes into the head from the block. You'd probably have to do something about that oil hole since the DE heads don't use that oil supply. Also the DE pistons don't have notches in them to clear the oil squirters. Whatever pistons you end up using you'll have to make sure they clear the squirters.

This is a good question. I've thought of this myself before. I'd try to get info from some of the guys more familiar with the VE though. I'm just giving you things that I"ve read about.

I think most people will tell you to save up and get a ve head. The advantages you list would only really be important to you if your doing a lot of track driving. Where cooling and oil supply becomes more important. Ve's are kinda cheap on ebay these days, you could probably buy one take the head and then sell that extra block. Also VE heads come up for sale on here and on the old forum.

What are your goals with this? What you want to do you'll have to spend money no matter what. Well if you want to do it right.

A quick thought on expenses
Balance Rotating Assembly
Honing Cylinders
New Rings
New Oil Seals
Head gasket
Rod Bearings
Main Bearings
Surface Head(if needed)
Surface Block(if needed)

Its a little tricky to find a bare VE head and too expensive.Ebay or forum sales are out of the discussion too cause i am from Greece and its very difficult and expensive to buy something that way.
All the above labors you have listed are in the "to do" list as the motor is going to be fully rebuilt with forged internals.New bearings (both sets) seals all new.
My specs as i have in mind right now is a fully rebuilt forged block with big cams (not too big though c2 maybe) and gtir itbs and full stand alone map based ecu.

The spec list we came with is the next.

DE highport head with BC s/r (bought)
Gtir ITBs (bought)
Bigger cams (need to decide)
New valves with guides Supertech (in order maybe +1mm oversised)
Cp 10.5 cr pistons (bought)
Custom made steel rods (bought)
Acl race rod and main bearings (bought)
SSAC header 2,5" (bought although i would like the ASP its just too expensive to be sent here in Greece)
2,5" straight exhaust with only the muffler (need to be made)
Custom made CAI tha goes in the place of the battery (already done)
Lightweight flyweel 4,5kg (bought)
Adjustable cam gears (bought)
Solaris G6 stand alone ecu (bought)
Nos direct port (in order)
New pumps ( VE oil pump if the VE block is possible to fit the head)
Coil pack ignition (need to buy)

The goal we are hoping is not to high we want to be around 210-220 bhp +100 with the nitrous engaged.

BHP means crankshaft horsepower ?

Yes bhp means crankshaft.
@rnd2k i will keep you posted as soon as the built begins as we are currently at the phase of purchasing parts.

Can anyone else verify me that the block can work with the DE head as i am considering about valve to piston clearanses.
Thanks.

Valve to piston clearances are larger with the DE head as the valves are steeper and further away from the deck surface.

So if i understand correctly i wont have any problem even with the cp 10,5:1 cr combined with a set of C2 cams.

The DE has a 29 degree included angle the VE engine is 22-25? degrees included angle and the head volume is 46cc whilst the VE is about 42 or so cc. The CR you get will be lower with a DE head. You need to do your calculations and find out the piston dome volume to calculate the CR for YOUR combination.

i'm currently in the process of doing this, sr16ve block and pistions and 2litre 8cw crank and rods the compression will be around 12.8:1-13:1
