Car without filter wont work better.. actually there are some power losses. Not worth the risk anyway.
Do you have dyno graphs s3 vs s4? I doubt you dont.. so how you can say it has more midrange? For what you need a little more midrange power? Ive had S4 in my DE and there were gains from 2500rpm to redline. With only CAI and ECU ive beated tuned Integra Type R and other fast cars.
About ITBs.. search on older forum. Its not worth... are you going to use MAF? Stock ECU? You are spending money on wrong parts.

Just my advice.

id say it depends on the filter, some filters might be more restictive in other areas of the powerband than others, but just really depends, also depends on the supporting modifications. although its not a turbo engine, i have seen some filters on dyno test restrict up to 11whp just saying

so every one advices me to go directly on stand alone, but i have the ITB's and i'll try to bolt it on and just start the car to see what will hapend, in the future i have in mind stand alone megasquirt 2
p.s i only have dyno with s3's no body belives it but the that sr20 runs stronger than bmw e36 325/328 lol also i dont know why but its faster than sunny/100nx with the same mods as mine lol the only diff is that the sunny/100nx has 143hp not the redtop
in my experience on SR20's no cone filter even the popcharger has effect may be in us engines is better. the only non turbo car that i know to run better with cone is C20XE but the XE is with completely different intake manifold and throttle body on the top so the air falls down and goes equally to all cylinders

i recomend the aem ems, they are also coming out with a series 2 version that approve upon the current version of the ems, its well worth it, easy to lean how to tune, plug and play with exceptions of map sensor,IATS, and a few others, def recomend it

Have you ever dynoed stock redtop? Ive never seen numbers like 150hp. My Sunny 100% engine did 147hp. Do you know what is different beetween Sunny/Nx and Primera engine?
Never heard about Primera is faster than Sunny with same mods, its impossible.. Primera is heavy.
I would like to see pics of you intake, can you do that? Post your dyno graphs too please..

You can cone filter dont work.. well, maybe in Bulgaria, but in all cars around me it works very well on SR20 engines.

I can see why you would say stock air box is better. Cone filters by default just help the engine breath better, but they don't have the more advanced techniques that OEM implements.

Check out BPi Flow Stack
Now when you start looking into flow stacks, this is where you will outperform the stock airbox. Filter design is also important.

When I dynoed no airbox, vs flow stack it was 2whp, but having a filter on got me 3 more whp.

i'm in new york i'll post when i go back, also i'm not here to argue my engine is fully rebuild so its not quietly stock, and my primera weight less than stock its partly stripped and will be fully striped soon with fiberglass hood and trunk

about the stack i agree with others opinion, i'll try with stack guy's thanks for advice

I know I'm way late to this game but someone should have mentioned that without an O2 sensor the extra air provided by a cone filter or "intake" of some kind will only make the car run leaner which could easily rob you of power. Cars with an O2 sensor will see the car is getting more air than it expected (if the MAF doesn't do a good enough job) and give you that extra fuel you needed.

However I guess on the dyno you're at WOT and in open loop so the O2 sensor shouldn't be in the equation anyway.

Yah I'm just blabbering.

Glad to hear the car is running well!
