Cam gear settings for de
Can you guys give me some ideas for cam gear settings and what area the adjustment would shift the power band to. I figured posting this thread would save alot and I do mean alot of dyno time a.k.a $$$$. I don't know if the settings are the same cam to cam but lets pretend we are using something common like jwt s4's or bc2's.

What I don't understand is if you bring up a old thread you get flamed. You start a new thread get flamed. What I found when I searched (prior to posting this thread ) is a bunch of dyno maps that don't answer my question. I don't want to know how much power a change of the gearing makes. I would more prefer to know where the power shifts in the power band with each different combination. For example where does the power go if you shift the intake gear to +5 and leave the exhaust at 0 and vise verse.

Why don't you just go out and start making changes, then dyno them???

I can't even change the mutha fu k as because the last time I asked "how do you adjust cam gears " it was remarked it as a foolish question to ask. That's those guys that bring their cars to Performance shops that their momas support their cars on the other hand though....I do every thing with my own hands with my own dime . As Matter of fact Ive called you on phone before tekkie one time. You have helped me out in the past I remember everyone that helps me out and unfortunate I also remember the azzos when I see them in my rear view. Trust me if every thing was in the fsm I would waste no time logging in here, for what? to hear people talking smack ha. That's ok though if it cost me a engine or two I guess I'll just buy 10 more charge it to momas card.

Here is what I found, advancing the intake cam shifts the torque curve down, so instead of power peaking at 6400rpm it would do like 5900-6200rpm depending on how far its advanced. Keep in mind that shifting it down would cause a big loss in top end power. Now if you retard the intake cam it will shift the torque curve up so, instead of making peak at 6400rpm it would be close to 6600-6800rpm depending on how far you go. As far as the exhaust cam it didn't seem to have that much effect outside of idle quality. The hot ticket for the SR20 would be the VTC that comes on the rwd S14 DE.

It would allow you to advance the intake cam 9* which would allow you to use a big cam like a JWT C2 and make great midrange and still have a decent idle at 750rpm! Right now I have my C2s set for -4 int/ +4 exh, which reduces overlap and midrange torque, but the car will idle on stock ecu at 750rpm with no issues and has no surging or bucking at part throttle below 3000rpm. I've got road dyno data that shows with VTC I'd be able to pick up 9whp/15wtq in the midrange.

c'mon topdog. every setup is different. nismo87 gave you some insight into what generally happens with his de setup. i posted a couple cam gear dyno's for a ve in the tuning section.
it's really trial and error in each case. with my (ve) setup, retarding the ex cam gives more power across the board.
what you really need to know is "how far" can you safely go before you have piston/valve contact and work back from there. i'm @+5/-6 on n1's.
