Running hot
Ok I'm having this little problem thats bugging me. After my GA to SR swap, the car has been running hot. It actually starting running hot with the GA16. But I figured that was an effect of the leaky head gasket. Now with the new motor, The temp jumps up to the hlafway mark within 5 minutes of driving. I mean like it goes straight up like my rpms but it doesn't get any higher than the halfway. Lots of heat in the bay. Now I'm already pretty sure I know what it is (got a list of solutions) But before I say anything, I want any info I can get from everybody. Talk to me as if I know nothing

-Thanks in advance!

Also... What are the downsides to deleting my EGR?

My B13 does that same thing. The temp jumps up to a little before half. But everything works fine. My old B14's did that too.

it could be lots of things , but mainly it has to do with cooling .

did you upgrade the radiator from the 1.6 to a 2.0 one ?

a change of thermostat and fresh coolant would not hurt.
dont run straight water uless you are using water wetter .

sr20 motors tend to run on the hot side, best thing to keep temps down is a KOYO or a cheap solution is a dual core NX2k one,

also if you really want to monitor get a autometer water temp gauge.
there is a thread on temps that people run in their cars. im at 215 deg on hot days and 190-200 at night when its cooler on my boosted RR.

I upgraded rads. First on my list was a new thermostat cuz if even its not that it would'nt hurt to get rid of the old one. I'm running a 50/50 of conventional green antifreeze that I mixed myself. I just dont like it being so hot. And i understand they run about halfway but it shouldnt be instantly getting up that high. I'm thinkin it has to do with the fact the I deleted the A/C so the coolant doesnt go through the firewall anymore. I just ran a hose from one outlet to the other so it jumper straight over. What if I make some kind o small tank that the coolant runs into and kinda cools off on the way out? maybe out of aluminum and close to the bottom of the bay near the front? < WOOOWWW please ignore that :o

I jst realized I basically described a radiator like a dumbass.. LMFAO. I will be getting a bigger koyo rad in the future. I guess for now I'll just change the thermostat and maybe make the hose that jumpers the two outlets longer so it cools a little. Also would slim fans be better? I was looking into oil coolers aswell.

This problem does not sound like a problem to me, my car when at proper operating temperature is about at the half way mark as well. If you are on the nervous side you can upgrade to the nismo thermostat that opens at a lower temperature greg at gspec.com has those. Toss in a bottle of water wetter you should be good to go.

Once again its the fact that it jumps straight up right away. Running temp is decent but it shootin straight up after 2-3 minutes of running means something is not right.
