Locking or Limited or not?
I have a 01' sentra se pp with abs and just messed up my axle. I just talked to the guys at the shop and they asked me on an auto (it's on rockauto as well!) if the auto tranny is a locking differential (different from a lsd) is there a way to tell!?!

its not a locking differential. its either open or LSD. Locking diff is something 4WD trucks use to get unstuck. The Diff gears lock together and both wheels turn the same speed regardless and you have to go real slow to use it.
If both front wheels spin the same direction with the front of the car jacked up in neutral, then you have a LSD. If one spins the opposite of the other its not LSD.

Is your car still intact? You could raise the front end, put the tranny in neutral, and rotate one front tire. If the other front tire rotates in the same direction then you have limited slip.
Or, does your car have a metal vin tag on the firewall, in the engine bay? If you do, then the tranny type is identified there.

if you jack up your car and turn your wheels they shoudnt spin at the same way.. it only locks up under force or torque..
