Please Help Me to Choose a Clutch...
I am at 170+hp, 140+ tq now. My goal is 180-190hp, 140-150tq.

Now I need a relaible clutch for street and occasional drag.

A bit of history:
First used genuine stock, didnt work.

Then a stage 1 kit from ebay, didnt work

Then ACT HD pp with 6 pad sprung ceramic and it got broken in about 3 months. Springs were all over the place. Clutch came out of tranny in about 12 pieces!

Now I really dont want a solid centre clutch to shock my tranny (weak 3rd gear)

I am now using the same ACT hd pp with a b15 disc but it's slipping. The disc has about 8000 miles on it. Maybe it wasnt surfaced properly when the disc was changed.

These are the ones I am looking at:

ACT Clutch Kit - Xtreme (XT) - yOparts.com | Wholesale Performance Autoparts - Turbo Parts - Suspension Parts - Engine Parts - Wholesale Autoparts Club
Plz note this is extreme pp

Clutchmasters FX300 Clutch Kit - yOparts.com | Wholesale Performance Autoparts - Turbo Parts - Suspension Parts - Engine Parts - Wholesale Autoparts Club

Fidanza Clutch - 4.3 Performance Clutch - yOparts.com | Wholesale Performance Autoparts - Turbo Parts - Suspension Parts - Engine Parts - Wholesale Autoparts Club

The site I got these from Welcome to YoParts - Wholesale Performance Autoparts Club has lots more so if you cant point me to another one here, I'll be happy. My friend who is gonna buy for me has an account there.

Otherwise I am open for suggestions.

Thanks.

Something is wrong. There's no way you should be slipping an ACT HD pressure plate and B15 clutch disc with 140 ft-lbs.

Something is very wrong.

Clutch cable adjustment is my first guess. How is yours? How far off the floor does it start engagement? How far from the top does it finish engagement?

Are you absolutely sure it's the clutch slipping and not one tire? How is your LSD performing?

If his lsd would be worn out and peg legging it it would be much different than a slipping clutch. I have a peg leg tranny and ive had a slipping clutch before. Big difference. He probably got a used worn out pressure plate? I say get the same set up again. But all brand new parts and an OEM throw out bearing. Im running an unsprung 6 Puck but i wouldnt recommend it for your set up.

Not prepared to get that same set up at all.

As I said, it could be that when the ceramic clutch was damaged, the pp could have been damaged. The mechanic probably didnt face it properly.

I must say that I drag race the car sometimes.

But having said that, I want a different set up.

Peace

I have a bolted-on DE and am going VE.

I am completely UNimpressed with ACT. From my experience, they suck.

My ACT clutch was broken all around the "springs." The springs were about to pop out. With less than 15K or so on the clutch, no racing, no dragging, one (1) trip to Roebling Road race course, and daily driving. My trusted mechanic (Mike) was not impressed either, and thinks the ACT is a POS.

No need to get that crazy.

Agreed with BenFenner, it should not be slipping.

Thanks.

I called Greg V at G-Spec.

Explained my bolted-on DE, unhappiness with ACT, and my plans that include a bolted-on (maybe cammed) VE.

1) He recommended his Stage 3 Clutchkit, which I purchased. Love it so far, 200 miles or so on the odometer so no "beating on it" yet, 500 mile easy break-in period. However, so far it is mooth, quiet, feels relatively stock. Greg V knows his sh*t when it comes to our vehicles. I would trust him and his recommendations over anybody at any "clutch manufacturer" (or "clutch re-brander").

2) I also installed an Andreas Miko Tranny Saver bracket. You need one sir.

3) And a 00' B15 LSD transmission, because I never want to have another broken B13 POS Tranny.

That combination should be good for very long time.

I've heard way too many horror stories about ACT, Spec, Clutchnet, etc. to be able to recommend anything other than Greg's clutch kits.

I helped write the descriptions for them so they'd be as clear as possible, and you can make an educated decision. The only thing I see wrong is that they are missing torque holding recommendations (most just list HP rating). Torque is really the important thing, but Greg is filling out the descriptions as he finds out how much torque they will really hold.

I say you give them a look and see which you'd like to go with.

Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3
Stage 4

FYI, I have the stage 3 clutch kit just like Shawn B and mine has held up just fine so far to 300 WHP and 230 WTQ which is well beyond it's advertised holding power (I may get with Greg soon and revise the stats for it).

I have both the ACT xtss clutch and the stage 3. The stage 3 is in my ve car and it makes for a great dd setup. I have the xtss clutch in the turbo car and have had zero issues with it in the 5 years its been in the car.

I have an Exedy Stage 1 kit that's good for 240ft-lbs. It costed me $270 shipped brand new. It is similar to the ACT HD/ B15 SE disc setup.

I'm boosting and making 230whp/220ft-lbs and the clutch has not slipped once.

Granted I don't kill my tranny/clutch by starting the car above 3k rpm... My 99 tranny does not have LSD either.

If your ACT clutch it self is not a lemon, then are you sure your rear main seal is not leaking oil?
