Well, I can tell when a lead bearing is scuffed it doesn't seem to damage the crank as bad. I guess if you were rebuilding your engine every season this would save you some money. The lead catches debris very very well. The Alum was what I expected. I just didn't know for sure.
The aluminum seems to want to "catch" on the crank and spin easier with less provocation. But I think it is mostly because lead acts as its own lubrication in metal to metal wear.
I have tried stock bearings, I have had coated bearings, and I have had ACL. I like the ACL a lot. They don't look as "fancy" but they perform really really well. I have used 2 sets and after seeing the difference in how they wear, the coated bearings and the ACL seemed to do pretty well. But when the coated bearings failed they went out with glory, and took the crank with em.
I still love the stock bearings. I find it hard to justify the ACL price. But alas, I have GTiR bearings so I go with ACL because they are avail everywhere.
If you want your bearings to last longer, use a better oil. Stock bearings and good oil will easily handle 500whp and last.
