Head Bolt minimum diameter?
Hi,

Does anyone have the numbers for minimum diameter allowed for a used head bolt?
I know I saw the number a while ago, but couldnt find it on my computer, must have lost the file in a HDD crash a while ago.

Regards,

Mike

Don't use used head bolts. Install new ones any time that you pull the head off. If you are taking the head off on a regular basis use studs and nuts.

that is the length isnt it? Is diameter a suitable measure. There are reasons that I want to use OEM studs on this rebuild, firstly I have 20 old ones laying around, if they are in spec I dont want to throw them away.

You measure the bolts length to see if they have stretched. They are torque to yield and if they are out of spec they have been streched beyond being reused. You dont need to measure diameter.
