Some help...identify these cams--tomei??
I wondering about these cams if anyone can help

they are Tomei cams part#143006, 256*, 11.0 lift.
on the cam had 53J written on them. I know that is the head code for the
b13. The box had a crap load of japan writing. I am just not sure if they are meant for a s13 sr20de or a b13?
do rwd sr20 and fwd sr20 have same 53j head code?

I have searched both forums and online and did not see much. Does anyone know of these cams and can they work in b13. I am only asking b/c this guy took me to his garage and tried selling them too me, they are new, he said he had them for a sentra.

53J is on all factory SR20DE cam blanks. It is cast in. Many companies use those same cam blanks to make aftermarket ones. Tomei Cams use their own cam blanks and have Tomei Cast into them. If those cams say 53J on them, then they are not Tomei cams. You will need to measure the lobe lift on the and I can give you an idea of what they are.

Are those new or used cams?

hm... unless they changed to factory cores, or unless the pon cams only use factory cores.

I would measure the lobe height as accurately as you can and let me know what it is. I can then tell you the rough lift to be sure they are correct

ok measured cams, from research...poncams use factory cores so they only have a 53j stamp on them. the cams I have just have a 53j stamp.

for the exhaust cam just measuring the lobe, I get
1.54'' and 1.55'' inches. or 39.116mm and 39.37mm

this is as accurate as I can get.

for the intake cam just measuring the lobe, I get
1.53'' and 1.54'' inches or 38.862mm and 39.116mm.

please correct me if I am wrong but the base circles of sr20de cams measure
1.09'' or 1.10''. so that would give 27.686mm or 27.94mm.

I know to get the lift you subtract the lobe from the base circle. I measured the lobes from heel to nose.

any help or insight is appreciated. thanks

If the lobes are 39mm then the are tomei cams. I believe stock base circles on DE cams are 32.00mm. so that makes your cams about 11.00mm or so.

then that sounds about right, they are tomei then. I am sure if i went down a more precice caliper that these numbers would have been right on....just when you are buying these off the street as I am you can't trust just seeing a set of cams in a box w/ a name on it. thanks for the help
