There's no real rewiring of a ecu, you can cut the rev limit and add a piggyback ecu to save cash. So B14 ecu is DEFINITELY not needed. Stock ecu still works just fine.

Btw...congrats canx2k!

Thats is true but you are left with CELs for a few things.

If you take a few more hours into it, you can have a VVL in a B15 and the car inside and out will look like it came from the factory.

You are definitely right, but I haven't worried about the SES light much. I cleared the codes a while back, but really the ones I had before were for exhaust, should be fixed with antifoulers, and the egr, which there's a writeup how to cancel that.

Of course now I probably have extras from the 5spd swap...

true, but when you can't spend $60 on new parts, a new engine at $500 is a huge chunk of my mortgage tough economic situation for us.

I'm now panic-ing because I've never heard of this head temperature sensor and without it I'll never have a proper running motor :'(

Canx2k, how much did you pay for the Highport SR20DE?

free. It's out of my old old nx. that's why it was the best decision for us, since the lowport was burning oil like a madman (1l per 100km.) oh, and had a cracked block.

Should have put it up for sale for $250 for a quick sales and then gotten a lowport for $300

when you're 8 hours away from the next sr20 owner, and in canada - it's impossible to sell anything here. I've tried - case and point - i've had a tranny for sale for 8 months -not a single bite

Miko, what's this head temperature thing you're talking about?

I ran mine without a CEL for over a year before I sold it.

I would say that weight is where the VE into a B15 starts making no sense rather than having it run right. FYI, I only spent half a day converting my B15 harness to run on a B14 ECU and it was not that big a deal. I, however, am more comfortable with wires than with a wrench (and I did not have that much trouble with the mechanical part either), so it may not apply to everyone. I also consider myself lucky. I was actually able to do the wiring in 1 try without any need to troubleshoot. It worked/started right up on the first try. I only needed to fix the cold idle screw and I was good to go.

canx2k: why are you not just running a B13 harness, sensors and ECU? Converting everything to OBD1 actually makes things way simpler. I would consider it more if I had to do a VE or highport swap again.

electric speedometer. that's the only reason...oh, and I dont have a spare ecu/harness lying around.

*edit* I dont have a reason why I wrote electric speedometer, I guess that's controlled by the tranny - a blonde moment for me.

The good normal legit reason is the ECU and all the wiring I dont have from the b13.
