I've never heard this before. Is that really true? What is the preferred gap size then? I guess I don't see how the distance the current has to travel affects the voltage. I would really like to know though. So if someone could provide some answers, that would be great.

Think of it like lightning. The bigger the voltage difference between the clouds and the ground, the bigger the bang. So if the plug gap is bigger then it will take more voltage build up to jump the gap. So a weak electrical system may jump at 10Kilovolts so plug gaps need to be smaller and the current is dribled across the plug gap but a good electrical system could jump at 40kilovolts with all the energy in one hit so plug gaps could be out to 1.5mm which is wider than stock.

Thats why capacitive discharge ignition systems can store the voltage up and release it in one hit to jump wider gaps for more power.

That's an interesting take. I'll try to do some more research to see if I can validate that. Thanks.

i found a US distributor for the ultra wires. they are based in anaheim, california and make the wires on site from rolls. this information is per ultra in japan (and miko).

apparently they (racingbeat.com) make ultra wires for mazdas in particular. i talked to the gentleman there and i'm going to send a set of sr20 wires to him and see if he can make a set. he has to make sure he's got the right boot ends for them.

i'll post up if he can. maybe we've found a US connection for these awesome wires. i'll also get a handle on a price too.
