Touring car head questions
now iv seent he standard BTCC touring car heads they look to be GTiR ones but the reverse inlet heads does anyone have any pictures or specs on them?

how did they reverse it? is it a brand new head built from scratch or do they just re-profile the cams to work backwards.. which in my head seems doable.. you can still have the engine running clockwise all you need to do is have the exhaust which is now the inlet open on the down stroke and the inlet which is now exhaust open after the burn cycle and with a good ECU you can adjust the igniton to match.. so the engine is still running as normal you have just reversed the way in which the air moves through the engine..

anyway was just a thought if anyone out there has some info or pictures as im just intrested...

The head was put on backwards and the cams ran the same direction as they normally did.

They cut out the side of the head so the cam sprockets could be used etc still. And yes im assuming they reground the cams and timing to get it all right.

I'm pretty sure there would have to be a lot more work done. Like enlarging the exhaust ports, possibly welding up and reporting the original inlet ports. Changing up the valve sizes so that the exhaust valves aren't bigger than the inlet valves etc etc.

I really doubt this is do-able for a street car. unless you have a really large budget and some very good engineering buddies.

what are you talkign about?

the head is physically reversed around. no need to make the exhaust the intake and vice versa. The whole head was rotated 180 degress so the intakes were forward and get a direct air feed coming into the engine bay. It also helped because the BTCC motors sat so far down low and back in the engine bay it proved better for space and handling dynamics.

i think he was tlaking about doing it my way by modifying the cam lobes.. i realised the valve sizes would be different ect but were talking a racing budget here for how they did my way was a theory i have no idea how they did it really until now :P

The reverse head motors are very different from a std sr20 motor. They actually cut the center part of the head out from the chain housing and the end by the distributor and actually "flipped" it around on the motor so the intake ports are now facing forward. The motors were inclinded at about a 40-45 deg angle forward so the intake ports are facing forwards for a sort of "ram air" effect. these motors run a belt and not a chain for lubrication if my memory serves correctly. These are built off of the 54C blocks and 54C heads as well.

I may be able to get a few pictures of a few parts of the motor.

54c head was old motor that faced forward. early 90's one your talkin about is late 90's p11 era.
