Stock --> Lightweight Flywheel Impressions...
Hey Guys,

Well, due to selling my turbo car's shell; I've just be re-introduced to the forgotten reason why I loved a bolt on DE car so much

The car is running great, it's a great daily... and for a while I've had the following engine mods...
JDM Roller Rocker DE
-Injen Technology ® Cold Air Intake
-Jim Wolf Technology S3R Camshafts (PN: ASER0-2KS3R)
-VRS 2.5" Stainless Steel Mandrel Bent Exhaust
-Magnaflow ® 2.5" Muffler & 14" Stainless Steel Resonator w/ Stock Cat
-Outlaw Engineering ® Thermo-Blok Spacers
-SS Autochrome ® Header w/ 2.5" Secondary
-Running USDM 98 Lowport Intake manifold
-Exedy ® Stock OEM Replacement Clutch Disc & PP
-Prothane Solid Urethane Motor Mounts
-Engineering Suspension Shifter Bushing
-Taylor Thundervolt 50 - 10.4mm Ignition Wires
-Stock Peg Legger Trans w/ Redline

Even with the stock flywheel & clutch the car has been a blast to drive, and has been for years. I haven't really added a mod for at least a year and a half besides the cams... and before that I was making 154whp and 136ft-lbs... Anyway I planned on replacing a driver side axle and my clutch so... - I finally buckled down and decided to purchase a fidanza 8.8lb flywheel (I just weighed it). I figured I'd put my ACT HD pressure plate and a fresh 2000 SE disc in the car while its down

What were your first impressions after your lightweight flywheel install?

I'm pretty excited to actually play with my b14 again... she's been pretty good to me ::knock on wood::

Did it surprise you at first? I had a 9.6lb stillen flywheel in my b13 when it was n/a but I only had it n/a for a little bit and it SCREAMED! I took it out and put a 16lb sr16 one in when I went turbo. I'm putting that thing back on my next turbo car... I know some turbo people say you don't need it but I don't care!

I don't know why I'm gettin all giddy and **** . I love that "I just installed something" first drive. So I'm looking forward to installing this 8.8lb one in my b14.

Sadly, I lied to myself when I said I was done modding my daily a while ago.... This will be the last two mods. *cough*

i think it somewhat suprised me that the lighter flywheel gave it a faster rev...but more so that actually being able to drive a clutch kit that extreme and a light flywheel was actually not as hard as ppl said..

i couldnt have a motor without lightening up all the assembly, be it, pullies, flywheel, ect i have to have it lightened i like the way the motor responds, even if its slight, still responds better

I installed a Fidanza flywheel in my car. It actually weights 10.8lbs. But the car feels great! Revs much quicker and the car goes up through the gears much quicker. Only thing is you have to get used to taking off and launching the car. But it definately is the best upgrade I have installed in my car.

I also have the JGY unit with thier clutch and it def. took some getting used to. Coming from my stock B13 DD to the turbo 200 was a huge difference. However, downshifting to 3rd on the Highway is fun!!!!!!!

yea i do think it takes some getting used to, but also with a larger clutch and lighter flywheel it takes more getting used to. but i dont find it unreasonable to get used to

Loved my lightweight Fidanza. Took it out though when I installed a Clutchmasters stage 3 clutch.. definitely miss it. Not as hard to drive as people say it is, you get used to it.

i think people are the ones who give clutches and flywheels a bad wrap saying they are hard to drive or aggressive i think it is just your drvinig skill that will effect how hard it is to drive really
