lowport gone, highport in - questions
hey guys, I have a few questions (ok a lot) that I'd really appreciate you helping on. I've gotten rid of the b15 lowport (obd2) and am now putting in a b13 highport (obd1) using the lowport harness

1) Can I get rid of all the egr stuff (bov, egr selenoid) off the highport, block it, and leave the egr temperature sensor, and the egr volume control valve off the car completly, also leaving their harnesses unhooked without throwing a cel? (yay we dont have emissions laws here!)

2) Can I get rid of the highport AIV valve (beside the canister on the front of the engine) or is it necessary for operation of the highport engine?

3) The IIAC valves are totally different places on the motor. one is on the tb(lowport) the other is on the other side of the motor (highport). how do I rectify this? also, It seems the highport has a ficd valve and the lowport does not. Is it required to be hooked up? if so, how?

4) is the air control valve for the power steering the same as the air regulator valve located under the intake manifold on the highport engine? if not, how do I wire them both when neither exists on the respective opposite engine?

5) do I need the throttle opener from the lowport tb on the highport tb?

6) where does the evap service port hose attach to on the highport intake?

7) Can I change to the b13 maf sensor/tube and if so, how do i wire/turn the 4 wire harness into a 3 wire harness? if not, how do I get it to fit, when the highport tb is narrower than the lowport? Will it throw everything out of wack (and throw cels!) if I just put in a pipe reducer after the maf?

8) Is the evap canister purge volume control selenoid valve on the lowport (wow that's a long name) the same as the EGR & canister control selenoid valve on the highport? if not, can i ditch either or?

9) **** guys i'm sorry there's so many. I've replaced a sr20 before, but nothing quite like this!

10) where does the other portion of the T which comes off the right portion of the valve cover go?)

11) I've read about a 1k resistor, but no pictures anywhere or writeups on where to solder this in. Where does it get soldered to?

12) Does the whole intake plenum (and the wide metal plenum that's the same material under it) all are air suction only or do some of the tubes that come off it have coolant as well?

I believe that's it - I really appreciate the help from you guys on this one, as I'm so confused as to how it's possible for all the other guys to have done this so easily without addressing these issues! (and believe me, I've looked through coalition's swap write up, voiddweller's, and everything I can get my hands on from the lowport/highport threads done over the years).

I just wonder if it's perhaps just because I have a b15, and it hasn't been done and all the extra **** the put on the engine that year is causing it?

anyways, any answers to the above questions would be a great help...I'm at my wit's end when it comes to searching and squinting at the low res shots of some people's engines to get this figured out.

1) Yes the EGR stuff is useless and if your ecu doesnt have the capacity to operate the valves etc then just block them off.

2) Not sure what you mean

3)Yes the highport is ont he side of the mani near the PS pump. You wil probably need to extend the connector loom to run to the new IACV location. You cant swap the IACV units as their two different shapes, so you need to unscrew the long hexagonal brass sensor fromt he lowport and put it in place of the highports one (saves you chaning a connector ont he harness) The other air valve the highport has only operates for about the first 30 seconds upon startup. You can bypas this i have in the past and it works fine.

4) Read above

6) Ive always used the TB off the highport on the highport and the TB off the lowport on the lowport. Not sure why the bolt pattern is different:S

As for the rest ive onyl done it into obd1 harness and connectors so not sure abotu any of them

I got oodles of noodles of pics coming at about 9pm tonite to assist the process.

Ok so the 1k resistor (#11) problem has been rectified. thanks voilddweller:

If you do a search on 'resistor fix' or '1000k ohm resistor fix' in the old archives, there should be a lot of write ups. This is the only way to remove the CEL, but you'll still run fine, just slightly rich. Double check for vacuum leaks. My highport was an automatic, so I had to swap over the manual hardware from another highport. The lowport hardware will work, but it's not the greatest fit for the clutch cable and cruise control.

So the AIV is taken care of to delete in the egr blockoff process. beautiful. #2 is solved.

LOVE the avatar. I tried to get one that enables motion but I'm not able to. Probably because I'm not a forum supporter.

Nice avatar, sorry to threadjack... continue.

i guess you kind of answer your own question.... its probably harder cause you have a b15 and i had a b13 so everything was pretty much the same. only thing i had to change was the dizzy since it was set up for the obdII
