Thread: sr20 head removal question

I don't recall whether or not the lifter springs have to be removed inorder to pull the head, anyone know for sure?

I don't think they have to be removed. Also, what size hex wrench or what method are you using to remove the head bolts?

well i have a 10mm alan key 1/2 drive socket and I wil remove them in the pattern recommended by nissan

Springs def do not need to be removed. I can't remember, but I don't even think you need to move the rocker arms. Cams come out, of course, but I think that's it.

Cams come out, water pipe attached to head there is a hose that goes to the short block to that pipe. the small bolts that hold the head to the block. 2 on the timing chain side and 1 by the water outlet neck and I think 1 over by the tstat. Have someone hold up chain and lift the head off the block.
