Thread: Bad news!

went to drive off my crank pulley with two bolts and ended up putting a pair of nice little holes in my front cover! talked to a friend of mine and he said he'll weld it up for me but I have to get it out for him to do. I did search a while for a write-up on pulling the front cover but I couldn't come up with much. Anyone know of a write up or have a minute to tell me the process?

Thought it was common knowledge that those holes are NOT to be used like the holes in your brake rotors. You need to get a balancer puller. Actually it's better to use a steering wheel puller I found out. Rent one from autozone but you will have to buy m6 bolts and washers since the puller sets you rent only go as small as M8.

definitely worth the time to get the right bolts to work with our application as the tool itself is free

I was able to remove all of the bolts on the face of the cover and the two from the top by the mount on the passenger side. Looks as though there are two bolts that hold it in from the bottom as well? that would mean I have to remove both oil pans to get at them?

I would first try removing the passenger side engine mount (if you haven't already) and gently drop the engine down on that side to gain access.

I was able to get at almost everything without too much trouble. NOW the problem I'm having is that I have the cover about halfway off but the bottom ledge won't budge because of the pickup tube. I didn't want to pry on it too hard but it didn't want to move. Do I HAVE to remove the aluminum oil pan to make this happen? If so it looks like I'll have to drop the exhaust too!!

why didn't I just get a good puller.....

I ALWAYS use a slide hammer to pull my crank pulley now. I wouldnt even think of doing it any other way.
