s14 help
Sorry for the completely nubile queries....

I love Nissans - Probably one of my favorite cars now... I am looking at buy a nissan Silvia and doing it up as a project car so i can learn more about mechanics and how the engines work and run. I figured an SR20de(maybe det) would be a bit easier to work on regarding an engine install mainly.

on a 1995 Nissan Silvia with 205ks... Should I be worried about anything in particular? I am looking at this car costing me well over 10k in upgrades new coat of paint etc but regarding the body/chasis what should I worry about?

No worries. The Nissan Silvia already comes with an SR20 installed.

haha I am still learning! and I want to take out the sr20de and replace it with a sr20det...

The silvia I am looking at is a 1995 s14 with 205ks on it (it actually comes with two engines.. the sr20de already installed as well as a sr20det) all it has had done to it so far is lowered... are Silvias "easy" to work on? and when I say easy I mean are they a good car to learn on..?

Before we answer any more of your questions, do you mind telling us what part of the world you're in?

New Zealand... sorry about that

Oh a Kiwi. Excellent. =]

A Silvia is just as good as any other "normal" car to learn on. It has the basics of electronic fuel injection and coil-on-plug ignition, but it it's like a Mercedes where you have to learn crazy hydraulic suspension systems or wacky electronically controlled luxury systems.

Also getting into a RWD platform early is very nice in my opinion.

At the moment I have a 99 Primera... Im not selling it I just want a "toy" or project car that I can play with and also get a bit more power out of 205ks on the engine should be okay do you reckon?

That amount of engine use is getting up there, but a Nissan engine from that era shouldn't have any issues getting to 300,000 km or so if taken care of. That should give you an idea of what to expect I guess.

forget the silvia, show us the PRIMERA!

You need the turbo engine harness and ecu for that year engine if your going to swap it out. It will bolt right in but it won't run with the N/A ecu.
