clutch/tranny swap, upgrade.
my car
Well for the last few months my transmission had been acting up. it was extremely hard to get into first a lot and reverse was grinding all the time. well eventually i was totally locked out of reverse, even with the car off, so i figured the tranny was shot. keep in mind before i decided this i already replaced the master/slave cylinders. well i ended up buying a spec stage 1 clutch and picked up a tranny from a friend of mine for 100 bucks
FRIDAYi didnt want to rush it since i had another car to drive and wanted to do it right. well friday night i got started. unbolted all of the bell housing bolts, disconnected and removed the front half of the driveshaft, and with the help of a friend removed the tranny.
heres a pic of the old broken tranny
well after the tranny was out i went ahead and called it night friday.
SATURDAY: in the morning i got up and removed the pressure plate, clutch disc, and flywheel. i then proceeded to go get the flywheel turned and wasted almost the entire day searching for a pilot bearing removal tool, not succeeding, and got nothing else done.
old clutch/pressure plate
SUNDAY:so now that i had my freshly machined flywheel i pulled the car out of the garage, cleaned the gear oil off the floor, cleaned up a bit, and began prepping the new tranny. when i received the tranny, the previous owner prior to my friend had covered the fill and drain plugs on it with orange RTV and it really looked horrible. i went up to the auto parts store and picked up some nice thread sealer to redo the plugs and went ahead and scraped all of the old stuff off and re sealed them, looks much nicer. plus i also lucked out and found a pilot bearing removal tool at the same store
new tranny
new thread sealer on plugs
i also replaced the throw out bearing and after breaking a pressure plate bolt off in the flywheel and having to get it back out ( note to self, impacting on flywheel bolts is ok but not on pressure plate bolts , 25 foot pounds is plenty lol), mounted the brand new clutch disc and pressure plate
new bearing
new clutch/pressure plate
hopefully ill be finished and have it back on the road tommorow!! ill post more pics then!!
