Well, 19-2 on facebook eh? I will craft an argument here but knowing how the world is, expect the best.
Polyester is a petroleum based product that was invented in the 40's and purchased by DuPont and by 1950, polyester was beginning to roll out everywhere. I remember my grandmother complaining about how poor and pathetic that material is to make clothing. It truly is. See what happens when polyester burns. See what happens when cotton burns. One melts and upon cooling, looks like a melted toy solider and the other burns like normal organic material would. Polyester cannot soak any liquid at all compared to normal cotton (which helps in the sweating process by allowing the moisture to leave your skin and evaporate in your clothing rather than become so soaked that you are wringing clothes dry from sweat.)
Hanes X-temp shirts are branded as being cool. They are cool to the touch, but do not breathe any better than my heavyweight cotton t-shirt. They are made with even less actual materials and the fabric is woven in a way to reduce the amount of fabric per shirt to increase profit margins for Hanes while using half the blend out of the petroleum based product, polyester.
I have worked
very hard to remove all of these petroleum based clothing products from my life. All cotton underwear, t-shirts, cover shirts, jeans, shorts, all of them replaced. I even replaced my bedding materials and pillows since most are made with polyester. It is gross how much of these product is in the world and on your body. I removed the bed mattress protector and replaced with a wool and cotton blend, huge difference in sleeping at night. I replaced the sheets with actual
linen, from the flaxseed plant. The fibers are larger and soak up moisture even better than cottonseed plants can produce. It was also amazing at how much cooler I am and how much less I sweat....interesting.... because I am no surrounded by more material that can breathe and soak up moisture to be wicked away and evaporate into the environment.
One of the largest complaints from other forum members at Conventions that I can remember in the past few years are
-dark colored shirt in the middle of summer. (Solution: off a white or red base shirt or some other non offensive one to the color IR spectrum)
-the printed on top of the fabric way of printing completely stop the fabric from breathing. (Solution: there are a few ways to print onto a t-shirt, we need the correct method instilled and it can be done, my 2011 shirt is in WAY better condition than my 2014 and 2015 shirts)
-Small sized, or after the wash, god forbid they are not hung dry cause they shrink. (get a pre-shrunk and heavyweight cotton shirt that will last forever, my 2014 shirt is the most adorable blue belly shirt ever.
I don't have input on the creative process of designing the shirt but I do listen to everyone at the Conventions while I am there. I truly hope nothing can be misconstrued as some negative stuff as I only wish to have a constructive dialogue about materials and process of printing onto a shirt to appease all of those prior concerns brought up by others during the time we are together.
