Clear the Air - Race event and what happened
Hello All,
I am here the clear the air on the 2015 Convention and what happened to the race track event.
First of all, my post (post #49) on the other thread (sorry I do not know how to link back) my statements on the 5th sentence may have seem a little harsh, so I apologize for that, I was really pissed off of the whole situation. When I first approached Rob C, Lou, and Mark right after 2014 convention, I indicated that I wanted to host the 2015 convention in the mid-Atlantic region, the last time we were there was back in 2000. Summit Point Raceway was the perfect choice based on area, track, and relative location based on other events; go karts, Drag racing, and sight seeing.
Before any decision or post was made, I contacted Summit about the road racing and go kart event as they operate at the same location, then I contacted the Mason Dixon drag way and hotel. I got immediate responses from the Hampton Inn (Hotel), Mason Dixon (Drag) and SPK (karting), however, the response was slow from Summit at first, but then I got a response from Chris. I indicated that we would like to have a racing event and if it was possible to secure a track. Initially he said that the Jefferson circuit was available and he would put us on the schedule.
During all of the communication, Rob, Lou, and Mark was copied on the emails, so the "committee" agreed with the progress and made the decision to post the schedule
Now, came Oct, and I drove to the track to check out the karting and talked to Chris in person, he indicated that we can "piggy back" on a FATT event which would be more cost effective and drive on the main track, so he put us down. Fast forward to Mid January when he said to give him a call back. Chis indicated that on that same week, the SCCA will be schedule on Friday and Saturday and that we could not switch or host any other day, so we were SOL. That really pissed me off. That is when Chris said we can rent the other track outright and that we would need to provide our own instructors as the current Summit instructors will be at the SCCA event. The cost to rent the track and his response are here:
"I believe we could do a straight rental of the Shenandoah circuit and you could bring your own instructors. I can not supply any, but would pass the word that you would like some. If we did a rental, you would purchase a separate insurance certificate to insure your event. The rental would also need to be made out to a company or LLC, not a private individual. Your cost for such and event would approach about $8,000- $9,000 for the day. That would get you the track, corner workers, EMS, and a gate worker"
Later Mark tried to contact Chris to see about renting the track by using Marsh Tuning as the business and now Chris have not been very cooperative in the process.
The other tracks such as VIR was over 4hr away, Maple Grove Pa 3hr, Beaver Run Pa 4hr.
So this is why the race event was not going to happen, not because of poor planning or not doing the homework, it is just FUCKED UP the way the situation unfolded.
So what are we going to do on Friday? How about a test n tune drag event and follow up with the Drag event on Saturday.......
