Summit Point Raceway Track Event
I took a trip to Summit this past weekend and had a discussion with the track manager about the 2015 schedule and our convention. For one, I am glad i did the follow up. We were scheduled to be on the Jefferson circuit track on the 20th, but now, that may not happen. When we looked at the schedule and for that week the BSR (BSR is the recognized leader in vehicle anti-terrorist and criminal activity training for Military and Governmental applications worldwide.) have the main track (Shenandoah Circuit) booked all week so there will not be any instructors for the other tracks.........Bummer

But here is the bright side, the BSR events are scheduled to move to a new track late this year and the FATT events will move to the main track. So it looks like we will be able to have the road course on the main track (Shenandoah Circuit). So this is good news, but I will not know until early to Mid January if that's the case. Chris wants to make sure we will have the instructors for the event.

Also, the cost of the track will be the same; $250, and that he will open up the track for that day for all SR20 members via special code; so we get first entry for the FATT events and then it will be open to other racers. I will work on the specifics and see what is the cut off dates are.

The reservation process will be the same as the hotel, you will pay for your spot directly to Summit Point. So start saving your track entry fee, because it will be a blast!!!!!!!

Track info: Shenandoah Circuit | Summit Point Raceway

Technical Inspections: Please review http://summitpoint-raceway.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/fatt_tech.pdf

Decibel and noise levels: Per track manager; No open exhaust, you must have a muffler, maximum decibel level 106; measured from 50ft away on a slow past (basically, stand 50ft away and measure your pass @ WOT)

Madtec, a few things

1) The main track is NOT Shenandoah, but Summit Main. So you may want to look in that a bit more. FATT event takes place at all 3 (and soon to be 4) Circuits that Summit Point encompasses. Jefferson is a much smaller track, more reminiscent of a slightly larger Auto-X track

2) If you need to reach out to other instructors, depending on who sanctions the FATT, that can be done through other means.

3) The new track is complete as there has been various groups and instructors on the track

1) I stand corrected

2) There are FATT and BSR have events that week so the instructors will be scheduled for those events. Chris, the track manager, indicated that the BSR may move to the new track leaving the main track and he can switch the FATT event too that track.

3) I welcome any help, but what i do not want is mismatched or unorganized information.

4) I will be going back to Summit this weekend for my son's go-karting event, while I am there, I will get some more info from Chris and discuss the karting event with event holders.

Cool. Keep me posted.

I know of several instructors sanctioned through SCCA which BSR and FATT use for thier events (my brother being one of them). So if you are light on instructors, let me know and I am sure I can convince him

Instructors typically cross polinate between groups (eg: My instructor from the last SCCA sanction event is a NASA GTS2 racer) as long as the individual has the credentials (typically a Race license).

Cheers!

Cool. My first event at Summit was a Friday At The Track day, many moons ago. It's run very similar to car club DE's, in that, you need to get signedoff by a an instructor to run solo. Back when I did it, they took rookies out in old cop cars and ran the skid pad and provided classroom training etc. They approached it more like a driving school than an open track day.

Getting enough qualified instructors may be a challenge. They don't just let anyone be an instructor. They also just don't let anybody run solo. They take the safety thing pretty serious compared to other driver events I've been to. Just putting that out there.
