Life360 - Locator/group messaging app for your smartphone
There's a group of us that will be using this app to keep tabs on each other, as well as, to communicate while driving to the Convention this year. Seeing as a lot of the info is buried in the Caravanning thread, I wanted to highlight it in a separate thread so everyone can take advantage of it.
It's called "Life360" and can be downloaded for free on either the IPhone or Android devices. It's purpose is to provide map location data, as well as a communication platform for family "circles" who want to keep tabs on each other. Initially, I was just going to use it for the ride in, but I think it may be a useful app to keep everyone in the loop with regards to Convention activities, as well. It has an easy to use group messaging feature that could be very useful.
The way it works is a "circle" is created by an "admin". The admin then invites people into that circle using their mobile# and email address. Once the person accepts the invite, they are then connected to the group and can map and/or message other members. If you don't want to be "seen" there is a "location sharing" on/off feature. You can also leave the circle at anytime. You will need to be invited to re-enter the circle, however. Once the app is on your phone, you can also create your own circles. Keep in mind, though, circles are separate and don't link to each other. In other words, if you create your own Convention circle, other circles in your app or other peoples' circles won't know about each other.
My thought was to create a single "SR20 Family" circle and have everybody in it. That way if Rob or Lou need to shotgun info out to everybody, it's a piece of cake. I think it would also be cool to just know where people are from a social aspect.
I'd be willing to take on the task of entering everyone's info and the general admin tasks involved. We already have the "SR20 Family" circle up and running for our caravan, so I suppose I can just keep adding to that....
