Thread: 2014 SR20 National Convention Is Coming Back To OHIO!!!!

When I came back home from Convention, I saw a line of about 25 Ford Focus' around Carlisle when I was going onto the PA turnpike. Old man and I laughed out loud.

I totally agree with this statement.

Ben the only Nico event I been to was Omaha 2010. 240's I think they were the majority.
I remember one 240 guy who was looking down at Wes's 1.6 turbo and commented that it doesn't have enough horsepower. Then the look on his face when Wes's 200sx shitted on all the cars on the roadcourse lol.

All I am going to say about branching out is that I do not and will not allow the Convention to lose what it is about just to have numbers. I for one want to attract the right people that share the common interest. I am not saying it won't be a good thing but, I like the simple and humble group we have. My goal in 2012 as well as Lourok's was to keep people united and to make sure we took care of everyone. This in return turned into one of the best Conventions to date.

So spreading out can be a good thing but, it can also take away some of the qualities.

I agree with this, but there may come a point where the convention may need extra people/money to get private track days.

Why do we need a private track day? A group of us in PA just piggybacked with the Delval Miata Club to get some track time and it was great. We don't need to be the principal in the track rental. As a matter of fact that's exactly the thing that has created the most tension and problems for previous organizers. The notion that this is a requirement is a relic from the SERCA days that needs to be buried. It doesn't apply with our current financial or lack of financial structure these days.

Rob's previous statement hits the nail on the head. Quality > quanity.

The other thing people our missing when they say "branch out" is, people other than SR enthusiasts don't give a rat's ass about an SR Sentra. To them it might as well be the K car club. What other solidly organized car club wants to hang out with a bunch of broke ass Sentra owners and watch them patch their axle back together in the hotel parking? The only organization that might fit in with that is Chumpcar/Lemons? Lets get real here...

I agree with Hank. I don't even prefer us having the track to ourselves. That never made much sense to me.

I had suggested putting a post out on another forum I frequent - grassrootsmotorsports.com. Its a general gear head forum based on a magazine website that isn't dedicated to any single car/engine/platform. They're a really cool group who appreciate all sorts of car guy stuff, and really value modded cars done "the right way". They're fiercely dedicated to motor sport though, so anyone who's modding their car for legitimate performance gain will always get kudos. They're also mostly mature guys who also hold their own national meet in Florida, based around an autox, drag day, and concourse judging, with legit industry sponsored prizes. Turnout is usually several hundred people (often teams) with anywhere from 40-60 legit home brew race cars. Thing is, ALL the cars in attendance have to be built for around $2k, base car included. They don't care about how old the car is, many actually LOVE 70s and 80s Japanese steel...many 510, sentra, 240 guys there, as well as miata, Subie, 'yota and honduh too...lots of love for creative, family budget builds. I think they're a great group(been on their forum longer than I've owned a sr) who would fit in the spirit of the convention and would truly appreciate our community.

My point for all this was I was told in chat that inviting a personal friend or relative to the convention, even tho they may not specifically be in the sr game, is ok. But a general open door policy was frowned upon.

If attendance is the deciding factor when it comes to judging success of a convention, then a group like GRM who has a lot of presence in ohio and pa could bring in a bunch more folks. If success is based on SR content, well the dwindling supply will always be a factor.

Priorities need to be clearly established so a goal can be worked towards. I'm a convention newb, and excited to attend my first in 2014, so my opinion may not be worth much. But I love the sr and hope to see things grow for us. I'd be happy to post over there in hopes of increasing attendance, but don't want to overstep my bounds.
