[hijack] What is the reasoning behind having the switch at the back? Coming from roadracing where we keep them driver accessible it doesn't make sense to me.[/hijack]

Makes it easier to prank somebody at the line.

Blair, so the emergency crew can shut it off if the driver is unconscious.

Which is why mine are always reachable from the driver seat.... since I *may* have been "that guy" before...

Is it a "the car will be embeded in something too far" thing?

The cutoff is to completely shut down the motor and all electrical systems in case of a crash where the driver cant do so as in trapped in the car and say there is a fire or motor is still running they need to shut it off. If the switch doesnt kill the whole car it does no good. Its not as much to just have it on the positive side of the battery, you have to have the wire from the alternator on it as well in order for it to kill power. If not the car will stay running on the alternator even if the switch is cut off. So there is some wiring involved to move wires around to get it to work properly.

Most tracks only care to have a cutoff if you have the battery relocated though. Again its one of those small rules that is rarely enforced.

pretty sure the battery can't be in the cockpit. Has to be some sort of firewall between you and the battery. Even if it's in a box.
