You are talking about my backyard here... Do you mean Hutchinson Island across the river from Savannah? The road it barricaded off... but there are ways around that to take a few laps after a night out in Savannah.
I've driven that track and had a ride along... while fun it's very tight with almost ZERO run off.
RR is the better track for all of us and IMHO a lot more fun (and fast). I also highly doubt that they would even open Hutchinson for us.

Nope the isle of hope is where they filmed a ton of movies and used to run a grand prix race. My ex wife is from savannah and lived on the isle of hope. I was married at the historic church on the isle of hope. Here is a link to some of the things that can been seen there. You have to know where they used to run the grand prix since its not marked and the roads are open to traffic.

Didn't know that... got any pics? Was it an official track or just public roads that they closed off during races? Where I used to live on Long Island, Vanderbilt Parkway was a race track back in the "Great Gatsby" days... parts of the parkway are still a fun drive especially at 2X the speed limit!

public roads they would close off for the race. Its a scenic stretch of road fun to drive with lots on switch backs. Fun road but you have to take that you don't end up in the marsh.

Got the name of said road? Thinking back to the few times I've been there I think I know the road you are talking about...

iirc I would drive in on La Roche and take a left. here is a map of the area.

As of now, I'm trying my best to drive out there, but if I decide not to, I'll try to see if I can carpool with someone & chip in some $$ for gas!

If you don't fly, then you can roll in ruby.

Concrete tracks are amazing and grip super hard but concrete is unforgiving with the extreme weather changes most places have and they dont hold up very well due to cracking and chipping .
Asphalt tracks also grip well but are a lot more forgiving in the season changes as it expands and contracts a ton better .

I cannot wait for this convention joe please just get us a 1/4 mile track.

Sounds like fun! It will be a hike from up north, but it will be worth it. There will be a few SE-R's on car trailers heading down from wisconsin. I just wish there was a drag strip that was closer.

That sounds like a good deal, less than $200 each

The 6 people could switch off driving/navigation duties, and catch some Zs in the back seat of the cars on the transporter.

It'd be a hoot to see this happen, as it's mentioned leading up to every convention, but never comes to pass.

No its about 950 per car round trip, to ship in enclosed trailer. Which is pretty reasonable, i think.

For the guys that are gonna track you should probably really get your cars in great shape. I remember there was quite a few guys that had engine mess ups the last time at Roebling. If it was me I'd definitely invest in gauges, and also check to see what the bearings are looking like in the block. Our cars are pretty old at this point. Tracking will definitely punish your car more then the quick drag run or street run.
